Hi all -

On my most recent dive, I noticed a stream of tiny bubbles issuing from my inflator button on my (older-style) Halcyon wing.

Surely this doesn't require a trip to my LDS. I'm handy. These things *can't* be that complicated. So where should I start troubleshooting?

Any thoughts or resource-referral would be much appreciated!

best,
steve

I would guess a piece of sand; go in the pool and cycle it a couple of dozen times and it should work itself out.

You might check the QD on the LP hose. There is an oring in the end of the LP hose that seals on the nipple of the power inflator.

If you can try another LP hose, just borrow a reg and shove the power inflator under water in the sink. If changing the hose make the problem go away it's almost certainly the oring in the in of the QD.

These little buggers are challenge to change, but the oring is pennies, and the alternative is to replace the hose....

You can use an adjustable wrench and screw the hex bolt right off the inflator. Then rinse/flush it really well and apply a little camera silicone. If you are feeling inspired and ambitious, shoot some in to the tiny holes with a syringe and large gauge (18 G) needle.

I just happen to have a pic. See the octogonal SS part right under the Big blue H leg, on the webbing?---that screws off, revealing the inards where you will most likely encounter some corrosion. (unless it is the hose) Assuming you have the old SS one and not the plastic one on the left.

On my Mares the power inflater has a schreader (sp?) valve (read: tire valve) which is what the inflater button depresses. If the Halcyon has a similar config, and the flushing does not help, you may be able to replace that part.

Just a thought. Haven't seen the innards of a Halcyon inflater...

My QD started to bubble last week--I just tightened it back down with a 1/2" wrench.

Thanks for the detailed suggestions! I'll take a crack at it tomorrow morning and report back...

Stay tuned.

The o-rings do wear out, frequently. More than likely you need a new one. They are serviceable and just about any shop that sells Halcyon should be able to repair it, hopefully in just a few minutes while you wait.

Could be sand or something in the system. Could be an o-ring or a seat wearing out. If it's the latter, the power inflator needs service.

I'd pull the nipple and replace the o-ring. That's probably it. If that doesn't fix it, rebuilding the inflator is pretty easy and shouldn't take much time.
