Wow,

I always like reading how many members are currently online, signed on, number of posts etc...we are getting close to 10,000 members and almost hit 450 online at the same time...with that in mind, how about a bit of nostalgia for some of the "best of scubaboard" so far?

Here are a few of the things which might be interesting to get opinions on.

What is the funniest thing you ever read on here which was intentionally funny and not intentionally funny.

What is the best/worst advise you ever got here

What is the best thing you learned about your own diving from reading on the board.

What was the best dive story told on scubaboard (other than Uncle Pug's anchored boat stories which rule)

What was the best all time flame war or troll

These are just some of the ideas I came up with, I'm sure there are many many more great memories.

Anyone want to start? :D

I think you need to leave in UP's stories. They're great (and I'm in one of them!!!).

Funniest thing:
No doubt, runaway first place - "clip off fido like a stage" Eric, you are the king.

Best Advice:
Get the Fundamentals of Better Diving Book. Even with its typos and relentless pimping of JJ's other ventures, it ignited a change in the way I'll dive for the rest of my life.

Try Shop XYZ... great on-line LDS tips.

Equipment config and set up tips - this is the practical stuff that is the benefit of thousands of years of collective experience this board brings.

Worst Advice:
Sell your Atomic B1.... uh, OK.

Sure, a size 9 Rock Boot will fit into an XL ScubaPro Jet Fin - dream on.

One of my own

Best Avitar:
I gotta roll with the 3-lipped dromedary. UP, you rock.

Runner up is Doctor Jay. It freaked me out for a few months, but Pink Poodles rule. I want one. I need one.

detroit diver once bubbled...

should get a lifetime achievement award. They are by far the best stories on the board I have read, perhaps there are some other gems hidden away which we have forgotten about...I laugh every time I picture you two doing your best to imitate bait at the end of the anchor line trolling across Puget Sound.:D

I never quite thought of it like that!!:)

Funniest: There's been quite a few, but until I get some research time in, I'm gonna have to throw a vote in for 'fido staging'.

worst advise? That if I was better trained, I could do a 500 ft/min ascent.

Best Dive story? Seajay's DIR-F report was great, but I'll have to vote for Campana's cave diving series 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

My vote for funniest:

The Warhammer Maneuver.

Hands down.

The Good
Dive Reports
Since I'm interested in dive reports regarding cave diving, I enjoyed Campana's series of threads detailing the dives that he and Roakey did in Akumal. I'm also interested in hearing his reports on the Florida caves he's doing this week, but I'll be down there next week when he's righting the reports.

I haven't had the opportunity to read UP's stories. It sounds like they're a treat.

Agency Comparisons
I appreciate Walter's agency comparison. Think what you like about it, but I haven't seen anyone else put that kind of time and effort into something like that. There are lot's of critics and Monday morning quarterbacks out there, but I for one would like to see them step up to the plate and present their own essay-like comparison if they have a differing opinion.

Information
Once you take time to get through the static here, there a lot's of little golden nuggets of info out there. Ya just have to keep panning for it. Dive equipment... Dive sites... dive buddies... Dive medicine... Dive photography... You name it...Lot's of good info here.

The Bad
Padi vs Diverlink
Good grief Charlie Brown?!? Makes me think back to when I was a kid and my sister would yell "Mom... he's looking at me!". Makes me embarrassed to show a padi card, for goodness sakes.

The Ugly
Negatives
I get a little tired of sock puppets that take sides in the DIR vs non-DIR debate. Empty emotion without substantiation justs causes rifts. I think we should give each other more credit for intelligence.... meaning that if you can present an objective argument for why something should be done or worn a certain way to improve diving, then put the facts out there and let people decide. Smart people will try things and decide if it's for them or not. How someone chooses to dive doesn't make them a good or bad person. It might effect if I want to dive with them, but it shouldn't create a rift in case we want to share libations sometime. Besides, you'll never berate someone into accepting your arguments. Just share the facts as you can support them and let the info speak for itself.

Just my take on the world of Scubaboard.

I'd like to add that the NetDoc's song lyrics are a treasure. I still think they need to be published and replace that danged Kum-Ba-Yah campfire song!

Stories: got to give it to Uncle Pug

Coffee spray award: goes to O-ring and the staged pooch

Flamer award: Doh...can't remember the kids name....half the board went researching over the web looking to discredit him. Something like a 15 year old Instructor of everything and held like 25 cards. he had to keep revising his profile to fit his lies.

Stupid: Where is everyone from Poll
Properly fill out your profile then look at the left side of your post.

My thanks go out to anyone who tried to give an intelligent answer to any of my questions wheather you gave sound advise ot not.
