Hi all,

I just joined this forum yesterday, so here's my baseline from an hour ago, 6:50 am my time.

107.5 kilogram... that's about 236.5 pounds.

That was a pleasant surprize, I was down about 5 kg from April.
I'm after fitness, but I have a target weight and then I'll make plans from there.
I'm 178 cm, 5' 10" and my target weight is 80 kg, 176#. I haven't weighed that since about 1965 in high school, so I have no idea how long it will take. BUT, I did weigh between 85 and 90 kg when I was fit, so there's where I expect my next greatest hurdle. I guess, according to the new charts, I'm supposed to be most fit at about 70 kg, I don't know if I want to go for the emaciated look.
The greatest hurdle has always been getting started and maintaining activity.

Hey Tom, welcome to our "CLydesdale" group (scuba-punk knows the term). A little early for my weigh in, so I'll just welcome you for now. We have a good group here that's lost goodly bit of weight.

What's helped me is to keep a running total weekly. 1 pound a week isn't much for one week, but it is for 30 :)

It's like flying an airplane. Getting off the ground is hard. Keeping it in the air is the easy part.

Chris,
Thanks for the welcome.
Do me a favor and PM me if I miss a couple weeks.
I'd rather think of myself as perhaps a Percheron, I liked them when I was very young, but I can't do the trotting thing anymore. I have certainly been much closer to a Clydesdale than I am now. Following this metaphore I guess I'm shooting for Morgan, if I remember the breeds right. I need to get it from the horse's mouth, but I don't want to go to the "Diver's Who Date" thread right now.
They had something going on about horses and such for a while.
For me, it'll be walking in the hills around my school, maybe I'll break down and buy a bike, and keep my drinking in moderation. I tend to munch when I drink which is a double whammy, extra food and alcohol calories.
Oh, I think it would be a good idea for me to drink a couple glasses of water a day, in place of some of the coffee, juice, and soda I usually drink.

Sign me up for .2 pounds up this week. I slacked off on Monday and Tuesday after a race on Saturday and a big Bike/Run Combo (BRiCk) on Sunday. Unfortunately, I still ate as if I was working hard :)

Nomaster, welcome to the fold. As Chris mentioned, in the US, a lot of races will have divisions by age group and gender and then they have a "bonus" class for men and women over a certain weight (sometimes by a set weight and other times by a certain number of pounds per inch of height). The men's class is usually called Clydesdales and the women are usually called Athenas or Lady Clydes. I dogpiled Percheron and was impressed! Those things make Clydesdales look tiny, maybe I should call myself a Perch instead of a Clyde ;)

Take things one day at a time and switching water for soda is a great start. Drink an extra glass of water for every cup of coffee you drink (to make us for the diuretic effect) and read the labels on the juices - a lot of them have more sugar than they should.

As far as target weights go, be sure to pick something realistic. The problem with a scale is that it tells you nothing about body composition. Try to go for a healthy body fat percentage, and fitness. Using me as an example, BMI charts say that I should weigh 195 pounds because I am 6 foot 2. Even if I were to get to single digit bodyfat %, I will be 260 pounds.

Best of luck!

Up 2 lbs for me this week, This is getting to be a bad habit!! Up and down with the same Darn lbs. One BIG improvment for me this week is, I started taking a multiple vitamin, "One a day Weight smart". Ive been on this stupid weight loss roller coaster for too many years now. I want to get off and get in shape once and for all!! Turtle Gal

I am holding on here with no gains and no losses. Just happy to be here, such as things are. Life is starting to settle down some with my family and I am trying to get back into a normal routine. I should have lost some though this week because I had a bit of a stomach virus couldn't keep anything down or in for 24 hours. Feeling much better today, and have eaten anything I wanted without problems.

See you all next week!

I've had a month of parties, weddings (two!), family reunions (two! yes, two!). Need I say more? Although I will say that I have not gained any weight, and after last weekend I finally started being disciplined again. I don't remember how much I had lost the last time that I reported, but I have now lost 18 lbs.

It's the hardest thing, Turtle Gal, to get off that roller coaster. So far, I haven't managed to do it, but maybe we can help each other. I lost a lot of weight about 5 yrs ago, but never reached my goal. Since then, I have maintained well, yo-yo'd, maintained well, exercised, not exercised, you get the picture.

One of the best things that has helped me, though, is to try to remember that life is going to happen- weddings, birthday parties, etc... it's really okay to celebrate, if you need to. But try to take only a few bites of that delicious cake, just to satisfy that need to partake in cake. Then, put it down and feel satisfied, yet rightous at the same time. ;) You might lose weight a little slower, but you'll lose weight.

In other words, we have to live in a food-rich world. It's part of nearly every social situation that we're in. We have to get our minds right that if we indulge, don't beat yourself up, but also don't ignore it- get right back on the wagon. It's also helpful to remember that even if you only take a bite or two of a "forbidden food", it's not the last time you'll ever get it. It'll be there for a bit larger sample next time, when you're maintaining your weight, not trying to lose.

Okay, take care and I hope this helps.

Hey all, bouncing around amongst these same two pounds, been at 245 or 243 for a number of weeks now. Good news is I am at the 243 level yesterday :) So -2 for me

Chris

At WI I was up 7 lbs. Actually I thought it would be worse.

I'm hoping for a loss from that this week. I can WI on Fridays now, so I'll be a little late..but I'm going to try hard to get back down.

Excellent advice, Foo! Not always easy to follow but you're spot on!
