Yeah we've all been saying that for years. If we're going to suck anyway, we'd all rather watch a bunch of rookies suck. At least they have an excuse, and at least they will get better over time. The problem is none of the idiot GMs they get want to rebuild. I think the last time they really talked about it was Neil Smith shortly before leaving, and shortly before dumping a few of our kids for old garbage.
And when they do trade, they'll probably get rid of the few player that actually do work and keep garbage like Holik and Nedved. They would have been great Mess, Leetch a bunch of kids and Jagr.
Oh yeah and the trip report!
Got there about 1.75 hours ahead of time, flew down to 711 to grab some nasty prepackaged sandwitch for lunch! Then we used my idea, which seems to work. You park in the condos at the back of the lot and dump all your gear. One guy hops down the big curb and you pass all the gear down. Then you move the cars, so you don't get towed. Then we set up in pretty much the same spot as last time, but weren't nearly as tired, since we didn't carry the gear as far.
We we in the water by 1:40. Kicked out past the jetty, fighting the current and some pretty small waves. I think we may have been a little to far out, njscuba says how far the wrecks are off the retreat, but not the jetty. We swim in closer to each other, got separated a little on the swim out and rest for a few minutes. As soon as I start down, for a second I can't tell which way is up, since I can't see anything. The flag probably really helped with that. Get down to about 20', can't see anything! I'm fighting to get down at this point. After dumping all my air and still not sinking any more, I finally realize I need to let a little more line out of the flag. DUH!! We meet up at the bottom, or at least what I think was the bottom, going by my depth guage. Sit there for a few minutes, finally find the bottom, when my knees touch it. then after looking at each other with this dumb look, we finally give the thumbs up.
We were thinking about making a second attempt. Just dropping down and swimming towards the jetty, but we decided against it. It was pretty close to slack now, and by the time we found the wreck, we probably would have really been fighting the current coming in. Also vis was probably 2' at best, and since it was a new site, we didn't want to take the chance. I could have gone either way, if I didn't have the flag to wrestle with, I may have leaned toward taking another shot and taken the lead.
