I'm a Fish!
Here is some food for thought.

If someone offered to give “your team” a relatively expensive piece of gear that needed some repairs, how would you describe your team? I mean the team size, attitude, budget, training, call load, longevity, future goals etc.

To narrow it down a bit, this is roughly a $1500 item that "may" need about $400 to get in like new service. The item is good and servicable as is right now.

So lets see what you have to say.

Happy to help!

Our dive team was formed in 1988 when the current Team Coorfdinator promised himself a grieving family would never again see their child brought to the surface by a metal frame with a bunch of fishhooks attached. To that end we have become an all volunteer organization relying on whatever sums the county and local citizens provide.

If time is not an issue then perhaps we should wait until our 501(c)3 status is finalized so that your business/organization can gain a measure of benefit from the contribution.

While our team is undergoing transition as older members pursue other opportunities and new members are trained, at least one long term member describes the current crew as "the most professional we've been in years". We are currently defining our training goals for 2007 and expect to be 85% compliant with NFPA 1670 standards that apply to our operational capabilities by our 20th anniverseray. As we are not strictly a dive rescue team but cover land search, swiftwater rescue, and dive recovery, some localizations will be implemented.

We have over 20 active members with one third of them being operationaly qualified divers. This year we have been blessed with no call-outs and God willing that will continue for as long as possible. However, to prepare for the possibility our upcoming trainng schedule is shifting to role based skill sets and scenario centered training. Each individual, during their probationary period, will be given an introductory class covering team purpose, gear, and capabilities. They will also receive a list of skills needed for each role we perforn and they will choose the level of commitment they can make based on that. A team member who wishes to pursue professional or national rescue service will step into any future organizations with a significant lead.

Does that help?

Resourceful

We have accepted donations in the past for equipment. In fact, the current vehicle we use was donated to us by a local ambulance company. We had a local RV dealership donate and install some of the equipment on it for us.
We are an eleven member team of LEOs. Professionalism is at the forefront on everything we do and will stay on scene until the job is done. Our team is 30+ years old (no one in the Department can recall the exact date the team was formed, but dive records go back 30 years) and still going strong. We handle 20-25 deployements a year, average. Future goals include acquiring new technology to help us do our job, continued training in the realm of PSD and working together to be recognized as one of the finest teams around.

Do ya need the critter in the first place?
I guess it all depends on what the gear was; is it something the team would otherwise need where the repair investment wouldn't take away from more needed gear? (for instance, a good depth sounder would take preference over an espresso machine... usually.)
