Hello Everyone:

My husband and I are going to Cozumel in July and are thinking of staying at the La Ceiba Beach Resort.

We would really appreciate any opinions about how La Ceiba compares to the Fiesta Americana and the Grand in terms of the size and cleanliness of the rooms; the overall appearance of the hotel and the quality of the food in the restaurant. We are thinking of trying the all inclusive plan.

Thanks,
Chris

Sharky60 - a regular scubaboard member is staying at La Ceiba this week - so he will have the most up to date information (they just finished a 2.9 million dollar renovation of the hotel!!). He has a few more days here - but I am going to tell him to write to you when he gets back so you can have the information you need to make the best decision for you!!!

Regarding the La Ceiba,

I've stayed at the La Ceiba, ONCE, and Fiesta Americana. Fiesta wins hands down. Go to Trip Advisor and view comments from people who have stayed at both hotels. Email me at Evansmcd@swbell.net and I'll forward the link to you. I've been to Cozumel over 20 times. Will be there next week and in august.

I also stayed at La Cieba ONCE, and even though I haven't stayed at the Fiesta Americana yet, I'd still stay there instead. I don't know what they fixed at La Cieba during their 2.9 million dollar refurbishment, but it needed it. One of their two elevators did not work for the whole week we were there. That place has 12 floors. We waited forever to get on the one and only elevator that worked. AND, the elevator had a limit of 4 people. You might ask Sharky60 if things have improved.

We stayed at La Ceiba once about 5-6 yrs ago.... it was an okay hotel, but our issue is it is right next to the cruise ship pier. During daytime the streets are lined with taxis, blocking the parking lot. In fact, we had problems parking our rental car there and also troubles even getting in and out of parking lot due to all the taxis and the cruise ship people. It was a definite turn off for us.
We were out diving during the day but we have heard that the cruise ship people take over the beach area, snorkel area, and pool area.

I would look elsewhere, like the FA. It is a nice modern hotel away from the cruisers.

If you want an AI that is close to town, look at ScubaClub Cozumel. It is more like a Bed & Breakfast type place than a resort. Very cozy and quirky, great dive staff and really good food. We are heading back there for our 3rd trip. You have to book it through a Dive Travel specialist, it isn't listed on regular travel sites as it is all dive packages. Just divers and their families there. We love it.

I also stayed at La Cieba ONCE
:shakehead:

I too stayed there once, key word once. Had a great view of a tree, stayed in the tower.
Could hear the intercom on the ship, outside my window very clearly.
Very nasty tall skinny guy works the restaurant, I would fire his A$$.

It shows up on a lot a packages when I search , I use to like the little shore dive out front but I am taking it off my list , thank the stars for scubaboard , in the old days it was trial and error .
