Just noticed FI 2 for 1 ends the week before so will still be undecided

I know what you mean...that 2 for 1 special makes Fantasy Island hard to resist! We were lucky to book a week at Fantasy Island and also got a 2 for 1 special at Anthony's Key Resort for the following week. It will be great to sample both sides of the island on the same trip.

Thats does sound good CAJUN DIVA. You have that 2 for 1 worked out perfectly. Now I need to work it into my time frame. It would be great to see both sides of the island.

We went to Anthony's Key Resort on my VERY FIRST dive trip after certification in 2002. It was a lot for a new diver to take in, for sure. The diving on the north side of the island is deeper and more dramatic. It was pretty awesome as a newbie...now that I've got a few dives under my belt I am excited to go back and see if it is the same as I remember.

In the mean time, I have completely fallen in love with the diving on the south side of Roatan. There is SO MUCH to see...it's amazing! If you go to Fantasy Island you will absolutely love the place. It's got one of the most gorgeous beaches I've ever seen, and we have made so many friends there. So we'll be experiencing the best of both sides of the island very soon :D

Anyone know how much the optional shark dive is? Think it's a half day and they take you to the other side of the island...

We just got back from our first trip to Roatan, staying at AKR. The resort is amazing, excellent accommodations, smoothly running diving operation, just great. Diving-wise though, after a few trips to Cozumel over the last few years I was somewhat disappointed with both North and South side of the island (although we only did 3 dives total on the South side, one of which was Cara-o-Cara shark dive). We did see plenty of flamingo tongues, drum fishes, some nudibranches around Canyon Reef, a few moray eels, sea horses, plenty of huge lobsters, king crabs and shrimps (on night dives) and a few turtles in addition to a lionfish at one point. Good value though...

PS. Shark dive was $100 per person...

The sharks are the only reason to dive Caro-O-Cara, the reef isnt significant, unless you like looking into the abyss.

I find Coz to be a good "fill in" when I cannot get to Roatan.
Dont get me wrong, I like Coz, however I would never pass a trip to Roatan up for one to Coz. The variety of reef in Roatan, on the south side, dwarfs what is in Coz, IMO.

Undeniable --No comparison! Roatan hands down for diversity.:eyebrow:

We did two other dives on the South side - I think Mary's Place and Connie's Dream (or something like that) nearby. I could probably agree that reef varies to a certain extent North to South side of the island...although not that much IMO. Cozumel can be very different, even the same sites during the same day...
