[*]Any "Free Nitrox" deal that FI may be offering will only include a fixed number of nitrox tanks; extras are extra. (CCV has an all-you-can-breathe nitrox plan.)

Fanatasy Island has (or at least had as of August) free nitrox included in their AI package. Theoretically this was for up to three tanks per day but no one really checked on what you took so 4 or 5 a day is not a problem. We've done pre dawn dives as well as night dives along with three boat dives a day(not drop offs on the way back in).

CCV has an "all-you-can-breathe nitrox plan" but you pay for it. You decide which is better.

In April we enjoyed free Nitrox during a special at Fantasy Island. It didn't matter how many tanks you breathed...it was free for the week.

In July there was no special and the rate was $ 100 for the week...you either had nitrox or didn't. Didn't matter how many tanks.

Now they are running a 2 for 1 special. With rates that low, I don't see how they could offer free nitrox as well but I'll find out in four weeks :kiss2:

sorry wrong location

...Never mind.

I will be staying at FIBR for a week starting Oct. 10. The rate is only $440 +tax per person. The free Nitrox offer is no longer in effect, but is still available for $100 for the week. I have stayed with them about 10-12 times, but not recently; since the remodel and new owners.

After that, I will be going to Reef House Resort for another week to see how different it is. Their price is $795, including tax, per person, with no additional fees for a single diver. I am looking forward to both dive locations.

I didn't think I was a beginner either after 60+ dives through Mary's Place, until the Resident Expert on all things Mary's Place took me through and finger-thwacked me on my oblivious head a few times.

If and when I could find these again (all on my own) inside Mary's Place, I will accept the title of intermediate ;) I have tried eight times and I am assured that they are still there, exactly where I shot this picture.

Now I have no doubt that I myself am still a beginner, but in terms of the cool life forms that you come to South side Roatan to see, Mary's Place is still way down on the bottom of my list.

Mary's Place? By all means, do it once, but don't select a dive-op based on which is closer. As John_B points out, most (not all) of them will take you there.

Well said.

okay, RoatanMan, you are the one that said Mary's Place was best for beginners!
Mary's Place is unfortunately one of the places that most Roatan visitors- no matter where you stay or who you dive with- a place that most divers have on their "must dive list"... thanks to Scuba Diving Magazines. It is highly over-rated, but it appeals to the needs of the more beginner diver.

Sure, I have only done it once, so far, but that wasn't the point I was making. :shakehead: The point I was making is that beginners, intermediates, and advanced divers can all appreciate Mary's Place, for different reasons maybe, but all can really love the dive. :D
When we were at CCV last year, two pairs of just certified OW divers were there, one on our boat and one that we made friends with the first day.... both couples did this dive, and both loved it. In fact, one couple said that Calvin's and Mary's were their favorite dives of the whole week. The other couple loved both dives, but they enjoyed all the dives and didn't have a favorite. There were also a pair of tech divers on our boat who loved these dives, it was their 3rd trip to CCV.

Anyone who doesn't know anything about the dives, should watch the video by Ronscuba, a member here on SB:

I am not saying this was my favorite dive, it wasn't, but I really loved it.

Well I'm glad to find out FI's "free nitrox" is finally "free nitrox" and no longer "three tanks a day" (or at least they stopped enforcing it).

Two groups of friends have been caught in that situation unawares; one couple thought they were getting the free nitrox package but had to pay extra for the fourth tanks per day, the other couple paid $100+/- each for the "unlimited nitrox" and also only got three nitrox tanks a day. In both cases the extra tanks weren't very cheap.

So good on Fantasy Island for fixing that, if only unofficially. It's great to see them stop nickle-and-dime-ing people who think they are getting one deal only to pay for another. They might get more return customers that way. :eyebrow:

Very nice video link, Robin!

Aeolus: Looks like we will be there overlapping with you guys. We arrive at FI on the 10th also and then go on to Anthony's Key the following week for some diving on the North side. We're on the early flight (10:30) out of Houston (Cont. 1894)

There are four of us going together, at least for the first wek. After that, I am on my own. I have received a PM that there are two others on the same flight and staying at FIBR, as well. At this rate we could have our own boat. I look forward to meeting all of you. Thanks. ;)
