The snorkeling behind the condos is excellent, lots of tarpon ,snappers, angels, etc. It is probably because of the barrier reef that protects the shoreline.

billinwilliamston,

When was your last trip down? I go by Topcat on the Morritts Owners forum. Diving was wonderful last month.

Hey,

Excellant to hear that. Last trip to Cayman was September, it seems like a lot longer ago than that. Going down next month for 10 days (can't wait)!!! Some fun on the other forum, eh?

I was thinking of staying at Compass Point. I know all about the relative quietness of East End vs. Georgetown/SMB and the pros and cons of that. What I'm really trying to figure out is will the East End diving entertain us enough to make the trip a good one. I've heard a few reports about lack of marine life in Cayman over the past few years, but it seems like that's true for all dive areas. Some of the staff at my LDS are very down on Cayman after a few recent staff trips there, the last one saying for instance that the walls and depths were great but the fish life was significantly less than a recent trip to Cozumel.

I'm really just trying to figure out how the East End compares to the diving on other areas of Grand Cayman ( I'm already assuming not as good at Cayman Brac or Little Cayman) and in part I guess I'm trying to figure out whether I should take a second dive trip this year (did Dominica in June) or save that money and maybe head to the Pacific next year instead of the Caribbean.

Personally I like the East End much better. Take a look at the two time share resorts as well. Morritt's and The Reef are right next to each other and share a decent chunk of beach. Decent snorkeling there as well (if you find a pair of glasses in a zip lock, let me know). I'm not sure what places at the Reef are going for these days, but I seriously doubt you'll find a better deal anywhere on the island than what you can get renting from one of the owners at Morritt's.

Ocean Frontiers/Compass Point is having a 2 for the price of 1 deal in Sept and Oct (including a car/diving/condo). That's a heck of a deal and we couldn't pass it up.

Yes, the East End is quiet. But, you can't beat the 2 second commute to the dive boat. The condos are pretty nice as well. I wish it had a nicer beach (like the Reef/Morritt's), but I'm not willing to pay the premium to stay at one of those places.

2 for 1? That's sweet. Missed that one. Where did you get that deal?

Thanks.

Yep I was there July 11 to 25 and logged 27 dives with OF. Think I may give Tortuga another chance next year after this last trip. Yes it has definately hit the fan on the other site. For some reason, the software my company uses flags the Owners site as porno so I always wonder what I will read when I get home an dlog on.

I beleive the 2 for 1 deal is advertised on the OF website. I found a 2 for 1 in belize that the wife and I are doing this fall for someplace new to us.

I looked there and didn't see it.

I'm not sure how I got on this mailing list, but every week I get e-mails with 48 hour discounts on Cayman. Here's a link to the web version. It's updated every Tuesday.
Cayman Islands - Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, Travel and Tourism Site The deals are not always great, but I did score 1/2 dozen $50 2 tank dives from OF a couple of weeks ago.

It's definitely worth a look.
