...get youself an underwater detector...my silver and gold ring count for this year is now at 28.....just over 700 coins...gold chains..all kinds of debri down there just waiting to be found:D

I found a complete set of brand new fins, laying side by side, just outside a reef in Maui on the sand (about 30ft down). It looked like either someone set them down and put rocks inside of the foot, or a shark ate them and left the fins sitting on the bottom. Really wierd.

i have found:
1x Moter bike about 400m off shore
2x aus 5 doller bills :D
1x car moter
1x bike
1x fishing reel
1x bent spear

and i have only dived 10 time so far!!!:D

83 coins...5 swim mask's 3 pr glasses...misc trinket's
had 5 hours bottom time total
worth a day off from work i have to say...lol

Sounds like you have the places to dive for finding things, treasurerat. I don't use a metal detector but I do have a large selection of rings, coins, watches, and glasses, plus lots of odds and ends I have found. One of my best is a class ring from Rochester NY from 1977. The guy lost it in 1977, I sent it back to him last Augaust after I tracked him down.

i try to avoid public access sites in michigan(state &county parks) as those tend to get hit alot by everybody with a metal detector diver or wader alike...i lean towards private swimming area's ..private campgrounds. resorts .resident only sub division beaches..but i also listen to the old timer's to hear where they hung out as youngster's..the ole swimming hole!...i also volunteer to dive for these people by setting raft anchor's and swimming markers in trade for access...most of the lakes in my area have a small easement for people that live nearby and they have been used from the day the 1st house was built in the area.......put it this way..i try any spot till it is proved to be empty.
