Hi all - we're in the final stages of planning our first trip to Coz trip and wondered what options there are on things to do or see, after doing your 2-tank dives.

Since we will also be diving the next morning, checking out the local bars probably will have to be limited to one drink so in addition to checking out the best bars (to supplement the thread on restaurants?) what else would you recommend we do for the rest of the day?

Is there enough time to visit the other side of the island or is that a better day trip?

How about another two tank dive? ;)

Seriously though if not diving again mostly Cozumel is famous for good old fashioned relaxing. If you are ther for a few days having a car will significantly improve your mobility (Do not skimp on the insurance) and allow you to explore the neighbourhoods and amazing restaurants outside of the tourist zones. With or without a car try the different beaches, wander around town and spend time just to relax.

The wild side of the island is definately doable as a half day trip but bear in mind that dusk comes earlier in the winter.

Have fun and remember few people only go once to Coz ;)

Drink! :drunks: Oh, sorry you already covered that.

Sure a trip to the other side of the island is doable and often done. Just don't rent a scooter in Cozumel.

Other ideas:
Shop in town.
Got to the Museum.
Check out the ruins.
Go to a beach club.
Deep Sea Fishing.
Ride in the Atlantis Submarine.
Go to Chankanaab National Park.

All that above sounds like my busy life at home and I've already done it all. I prefer to go to relax so this is usually my itinerary:
Sleep.
Eat.
Dive.
Eat.
Read a book.
Nap.
Shore dive/snorkel with daughter.
Drink.
Make sand castles with daughter.
Read a Magazine.
Drink.
Nap with daughter.
Eat.
Swim in Pool with daughter.
Drink.
Sleep.
Repeat! Live is good! :D

Good thread.... I'll be following it closely :cool2: We'll be in the same boat, so to speak. A lot of it will probably depend on the other folks we meet at the Blue Angel.

I usually do an afternoon dive. Or a night dive. I can drink at home. Do the other side of the island on a day when the port is closed.

It really depends on what interests you.
I don't care much for ruins, touristy sites and museums in general, prefer popular culture. If the weather is not too hot, I like walking in the neighborhoods to look for architectural details, see how houses are designed, look at the gardens… Any country I go to, I spend hours in markets and supermarkets to check what types of food are available/most common and how much they cost.
The island also offers good snorkeling spots both North and South of town. Other physical activities include kitesurfing and windsurfing, but those might be too exerting after diving. Beach clubs offer the usual jet skying, parasailing, sometimes kayaking, as well as massages and of course plain beach relaxing. There's also a golf course, several spas…
Touring the island (driving on the transversal road from town to the East side, then South along the wild coast to Punta Sur and back to town through the main road on the continental side) takes less than 1,5 hr. The views are breathtaking, so even if you only do a couple of short stops, it will be worth it. Entirely doable after diving as long as you don't spend too much time rinsing gear, prepping up and having lunch.
Eating out, watching the sun set and listening to live music is my favorite way to spend the late afternoon/evening. Depending on the day of the week, there will be bands playing live in Money Bar, Love, La Hach, French Quarter. Just because you're in a bar doesn't mean you have to drink alcohol, you can have virgin cocktails, limonadas or soft drinks and still enjoy the music and atmosphere.
