There are times when you need the "faster" more powerful fins like during a long surface swim to get out to a reef a few hundred feet off shore. Then, once there, can take all the time you want going slow.
But it's a little like cars. Just because you drive a Porsche doesn't mean you should always drive fast. But it's easier to get the Porsche to 80 mph than a small 4 cylinder sedan.
(I was going to pick a brand but thought someone is going to get offended if I picked a brand they liked. As for Porsche I really like them as sports cars having driven one in the past - but not now with kids.)
