I agree - although I've found that with the right boot, I can't tell the difference between the two.

...Not that that justifies it; but at least there's a way to manage to make the fin comfortable while still getting a short, stubby, stiff fin.

I am still trying for the "perfect" fin.

"Perfect" means that it (1) fits my foot properly, and neither pinches nor wobbles while in use, while transmitting the power of the kick to the water as intended, and (2) gives me the control I want, including being able to back up.

So far the IDI Power fins in a "Large" do this for wetsuit diving, but the XLs are SLIGHTLY less than perfect for dry, even though I tried like heck to get the same configuration of everything ELSE (same booties, just in a larger size to accomodate the neoprene socks on the suit + insulation.) So while I have one solution, I do not have the second.

I'm really liking the Jets in an XL, although I had to make some changes... New booties that fit better between my foot and the fin's foot pocket (with a stiff sole to mitigate the lack of a sole in the fin), a good pair of spring straps (these things rock) and of course, a completely different style of finning. I can imagine that for most, making all of those adjustments in order to get "the perfect fin" would be asking too much. After all, most people believe that they should buy a fin that suits them, not the other way around.

I can imagine a Mako or even a Gavin scooter (when I can swing the $4k pricetag) with my current rig... And being permenantly happy with that. I can't imagine a better setup.

I still like my Quattros for snorkeling... They still haulass in a flutter and allow me to use some of the alternate kicks as well. And they fit great, with a 3 mil sock...

Well, the TUSA booties that I found have a very nice stiff sole, which I've found is NECESSARY for the "pocket-style" foot pockets if you want any kind of foot stability at all.

So I have part of the equation figured out..... it may just be a matter of taking an inch or so out of the spring strap springs to get a "tighter" fit overall on the IDI XLs.

Genesis:
SP ought to put a TwinJet-style foot pocket on the Jets.

If they did, they'd be golden. There is a HUGE comfort difference in the foot pockets between the two fins.
I wrote to ScubaPro in the US about 18 months ago suggesting this exact thing. Did not even receive an acknowledgement of my letter being received. At least the larger size has finally been released.

Have you tried spraying Armor-All or silicone spray inside the pocket? I know it sounds goofy, but an application of the stuff once a season may help. Keeps the fins pretty, too.

After doing this with the right bootie, I feel almost like all of the other fins are the ones lacking. It's like the fit gets really good with a little silicone and the right boot. I mean, as in, "sucked on your foot" good.

That's not to say, though, that they still wouldn't benefit from the TwinJet foot pocket...

The arrogance of Johnson Outdoors is truly breathtaking. I have talked to their corporate folks before.

It does not surprise me one bit that they completely ignored you.

I dove in my new sp XXL today. They definitely have some nice power to them, but I think the foot pocket is too big for size 10 DUI rock boots. I could feel my foot moving a bit when I kicked. I missed the nice tight fit of my twinjets.
