James Goddard:
After thinking about this post, I think it's required to make automobile comparisons....
Excellent... almost perfect.

Apeks:
What else, BMW.
I have two friends and a boss with BMW's... High performance, but high maint/trouble vehicles. The boss dumped his 745 and bought a Mercury Marauder last month.
Toyota would be a better analogy. 225k on my '94 pickup with only oil, brake, and one clutch changes. So far, 80k on my '03 Tundra and nothing but oil and one brake job.
3 years on my TX50/TX100 with no work at all (and I check the IP for creep monthly).
Apeks isn't really an ultra high performance reg, but it doesn't need to be since you're on helium below 100ft, right?
If anything, the BMW might be a better analogy to Scubapro, but Mercedes fits as well.

Kriterian:
It helps if you picture an out of air diver stomping his foot underwater and crossing his or her arms across their chest while gurgling, "no WAY I'm breathing off that!"

Then when they find the body, one of the SRD's says "Damn, someone must of asked him to breath off an Ice."

Actually that's pretty much the picture I wanted to paint, except mine had a dive slate which said "I'd rather be dead than buddy-breathing off a sissy regulator."

My dive instructor heavily recommended the Proton ICE. SHE has one and absolutely loves it. Of course she also has a thing for pink scuba gear too.

It may be a great reg, but I simply COULD NOT fathom myself with that stuck in my mouth. I had nightmares of being laughed at on the dive boat.
