Lizard Island is easy enough to get to, but upmarket and with kids may be expensive. You get to Cooktown and they travel to the Island by boat, or can fly in small aircraft.

That aside, the live aboards are primariy diving or snorkelling. If they are happy to laze on teh sundeck and swim with teh occasional snorkel then shoul dbe fine.

Other options is stay somewhere like Cairns, Port Douglas etc and do either 2 day 1 night trips or maybe occasional day trip.

Mike Ball and Spirit of Fredom have grat facilities with ample sun deck and lounge areas to relax in. If you didnt want long cuises, then for a 2 day 1 nigth go Ocean Quest which also has 2 lounge area, bar area, teh cabins have TV, small fridges, and snorkelling is very good. If the others didnt want to go, they could do a land day.

As for islands, I mentioned those above.

Only cruise dive boat I know of is Captain Cook Cruises out of Cairns. Not sure if they are still running, but they are more cruise than dive, but do visit some good dive spots on the Reef.

Not Googled them, but if they are, and you need more local info let me know and will check it out.

Kevin
