And the way to avoid problems is not to lie but to state the truth in a way so as not to cause undesired and unnecessary problems.

For example, "It makes me want to stay home and get a bottle of wine and candles."

Unless, of course, if you just want to start trouble. Then you could try, "Looks about the same as your mother's ...."

It is usually pretty clear when someone is just looking to start trouble.
