She was a special human being. When I got certed the two main shops were Scuba Club and Franks Dive Shop. Norine was notoriously anti spear fishing, and Frank was famous hunter so I went with Frank as I wanted to hunt. (today, there is still no spearfishing permitted with the Scuba Club.)

I met Norine on a number of occasions and greatly admire her.

Franks........ Bringing back lots of memories -

The club started as the "Norine Rouse Scuba Club" - was the subject of many articles in the old "Skindiver" mag (Terrible mag :shakehead: - but nice, fairly accurate - something they were not known for - articles about Norine and the club).

And as previously posted, very nice facility - I think its the nicest in FL.

,,,,,,,,I dive with them pretty often when the seas are rough; I appreciate those one tank dives.

If you watch the history channel, it was JD who took the Monster Quest crew out in search of Singer Island's elusive "muck monster". (you can google "muck monster" as well, but I personally think the muck monster is one of the Blue Heron Bridge trolls.)

Good point of the benefits of single tank dives when marine conditions are bad. Interesting note on JD too. Thanks

How rough does it need to be until they call dives around here?

each shop is different: many shops simply cancel because the divers self select out of the trip when the marine conditions are bad.

some SB'ers don't like this operator, I've only been on the boat one time and had a very good experience. They've been known to go out in 6+ seas when other shops have cancelled.....

If you are looking to dive when waves are big, you can also call Force-E. They don't operate their own boat but act as a broker.... if there is a boat going out in rough weather, they probably can find it. If you live in Northwood near 45th street and Flagler, Force-E is only a mile or so north of you on Blue Heron Blvd.

Sorry I did not see the earlier post.

I have never showed for a dive where the op canceled. Because I self select. LOL

4ft seas is about my limit for planning purposes. Been out in more, but not planned.

Not looking to go out in big sea, just wondering what they consider big enough to call it around here. Also, it's all about duration, not height. Or at least more so than height.

I left Jersey in steep 6' seas and I lost a bike before we even cleared the inlet, and got my *** kicked all day. On the other hand, one of my first times diving up North, we were on the only boat that went out, because they were calling for about 6', which it was, but very long big swells, and it wound up being one of the nicest days on the water.

You're coming to the shindig Saturday after TG at the BHB?

You'll get a wealth of first hand info there. :)
