And we have your usual array of stonefish, salt water crocs etc

Treatment for sea urchins - cut a lime in half and hold it over the area where the spines have penetrated and cannot be pulled out. Ive found this the most successful way of dealing with them - peeing on the area doesnt help and its also pretty hard to pee on your own elbow.

Certainly a good job on the OPs hand - ouch!
