One problem with the current situation is that some threads run way too long.

When someone starts a thread with something like "If I put a bungee on my AIR2, is that DIR?". The answer should be a swift"No." and then the thread closed, IMO.

Instead, we leave the thread open for weeks while every internet-dir certified (IDIR) diver gets to dribble his/her opinion.

Just a suggestion, but closing some threads fast might help. Don't delete the stuff - the questions still make for humorous reading, but perhaps don't let things go on so long.

Dang Bob... I couldn't tell you our "hit" count if I wanted to. But that's a nice dig at me. I count users and we just passed 80,000 for the second time in a month! I count users on line and we seem to be doing just fine there as well. I just don't buy into your "gloom and doom". Rather than just complain about this and that, use the report button. It's not nearly as dramatic as complaining but it acheives more.
Don't take it personally, Pete ... it gets back to the original paragraph that started this thread ... many of the people who once found this forum useful no longer post here. I'm trying to explain why I think that is.

And FWIW - I've reported many posts here without effect. To my knowledge, there have only ever been two people banned from this (DIR) forum ... and one of those happened shortly after I and a few others complained publicly about him. FWIW - I had reported several of his posts ... to no effect. So did several others that I'm aware of. Once we posted public complaints about it, something was finally done. So no ... using the report button doesn't achieve more ... in this case, it didn't achieve a damn thing.

I am one of the folks who lurk here. Only a fool would not look at all the options, idea's, and thoughts for and about diving.

I thought the forum had improved over what it was a few years ago with the new rules. It's not perfect and trolls will be trolls here and in other forums.

I liked the idea that was mentioned previously about a 3 strike rule. I hate to throw Lynn under the bus, but I believe that she would be a great person to make that decision. JeffG as well

Cheers

Who is the judge?

JeffG as forum moderator ... I like it ... I see a certain sense of irony (and balance) in it ... :D

Lynn indeed is a great moderator. The best I have seen so far.
