last week from our LDS in Lake Charles, La telling of the trip.......I opted out, the seas could be kinda 'ruff' then, lol---a crap shoot with these fronts coming in pretty regularly.....

yeah, I got an e-mail from one of my LDS's a few days ago as well, ...IMHO, a trip then is a complete waste of time, it ain't gonna happen.....the chances of the weather cooperating that time of year are essentially nil.

The timing is perfect for me; I guess I'll wait and see what develops. Any guesses about water temps that time of year out there?

Yeah, but if it does go, the diving is spectacular in October. Some of my best trips have been the last couple weekends in October. Clear and lots of critters!

...there have been news reports of a massive coral bleaching event taking place now in the southern Carribbean, including the TX Flower Gardens, so I'm a little scared to see what's happened/happening in the Flower Gardens lately.

So far, the reports aren't terribly bad. The FGBNMS just completed a check-up cruise aboard the Manta about a week or ten days ago. They found "marginal" bleaching (less than ten percent), but remained cautious about to what extent the bleaching event might reach before it ends. I'm like you...nail biting, but optimistic that the event will end before serious damage takes place.

The odds of a trip going are low but not nil. I went out with the Spree in mid November 2008 (after they finished up with the Ike cleanup) and we had good weather and seas. Not glass but not especially rough. I can see the reluctance from those from far away but for those within a few hours drive, you get the call at noon with plenty of time to abort and it costs you nothing.
