Yes perhaps . . . that would be my first shore dive. :11:
Divr_Jan has been trying to convince me to try shore diving for a long time,
but I fear I am spoiled!
Well, both Redondo Beach and La Jolla Shores are great places to do a first beach dive. If you get knocked down it's only sand and won't hurt. :D

So, unless we get a huge rush for one of the other September dates, it looks like the 3rd is the big winner for SEPTEMBER! :dazzler1:

The last count was

Sept. 3rd - 11 votes
Sept. 10th - 3 votes
Sept. 18th - 1 votes

Remember that Ray is also selling spots on this boat as an Open Boat and that it's first come first serve. When I spoke with Ray at the end of last week, he said he had 24 spots left. I have not spoke to him this week and I don't know how many are left.

Be sure to give Ray Arntz a call and reserve a spot. DON'T FORGET TO MENTION SCUBABOARD. This way we get our discounts as we fill up the spots he has available.

The Sundiver - Captain Ray Arntz

If he does not answer it means he's out to Sea without phone reception, so leave him a message and he'll call you as he comes back to port.

I just talked to Ray and he's expecting calls for September 3rd and that people will mention ScubaBoard.

Also, since the Sundiver fills up quickly, I'm attaching a poll to this thread to vote on the available dates in OCTOBER. The poll will close in 2 weeks.

I would really love to do this, but I'm still fairly new and dont have all my equipment yet.
Sports Chalet, Hollywood Divers, Dive-n-Surf, Laguna Sea Sports and many others all rent equpiment. At SC $45,00 will get you all the gear you need and you pick up on Friday and return on Sunday for a one day rental.

So all you really have to own are mask, fins, sorkle (if you want to use one), boots and gloves. So not owning all your gear is not a show stopper, it just means your boat dive will cost $45.00 more.

Thanks for the Info, I'll see what SC has to offer, since everything else is way over an hour away from me.

Need a new weight belt or any other gear? Wait until the surf comes up at the Shores, then go snorkling late on Sunday and Saturday...after the dive classes leave.

It looks like Oct. 1st and Oct. 29th are now running neck and neck.

If both of these continue to be equally popular until we reach the closing date of the poll, maybe we should go for both dates since they are (for all practical purposes) one month apart. I imagine that some of the people who voted might actually go to both.

Also, it looks like we can assume that Oct. 23 is dead at this point.

Don't forget to vote for one of these.

I know I will be, and several of us, will likely be on one of the long range multi-dayers going big bug hunting. My vote is for any weekend other than the Opener.

Yep!

I believe Oct. 1st is opening day. Personally, I haven't been hunting lobster for years. I don't really miss it, so going out on a day trip on opening day sounds good to me.

The dates that are up for a vote are the only ones that we have available to us on such short notice.

After we get past these first boat dives we can make plans much further in advance to accomodate a regular schedule like the Wrinkles dive. That would greatly simplify things.

So, it looks like you'll be casting your vote for Oct. 29th then?
