This is a new thread dedicated to getting a plan put together for the first monthly Mo2vation Boat Dive. It started with a discussion in this thread:

http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=90930

In this other thread we had talked about doing this with the Sundiver on Saturday, Aug 27, but that "Open Boat" is already booked. I now know which days are more open and we can work from there.

I just got done speaking with Captain Ray Arntz of the Sundiver. I think this is a good choice for trying to put together our first shot at this because most people seem to like his boat and crew and he really wants to help make it easy for us to move in this direction.

I told him that we are trying to put together our first boat trip as a group and don't want to commit to buying out the whole boat until we know how many people will consitently make it month after month.

So, here is what we figured out. We can fill the boat on a day he has it listed as an "Open Boat". Ray will take the reservations and the money, since he's already set up for it. He'll continue to sell spots until it's full. When you mention ScubaBoard, then you are part of our group and we'll get a discount as we get more people, but he'll also continue to fill the boat with non-ScubaBoard members. When it's full, that's it.

Here is the deal NOT including air and food:

From 1 to 9 divers, we'll pay $85 per person.
From 10 to 19 divers, we'll pay $80 per person.
For 20+ divers, we'll pay $75 per person.

I think this is very fair considering that there is no commitment for the number of people we need.

Here are the dates available and how many spots are still open:

Saturday, Sept. 3 - 24 spots still open
Saturday, Sept. 10 - 18 spots still open
Sunday, Sept. 18 - 16 spots still open

While we are going to decide about Sept, we should now talk about Oct. My thought is that we should decide to do the first 2 months on the same boat, since it will take time that I don't think we have now to make decisions and gather info for other boats. Later, we can make decisons for the coming year when we have more time. For the future, I envision us changing locations like we do for the Wrinkles Dives.

Here are the available dates in October:

Saturday, Oct. 1 - Completely open with 26 spots
Sunday, Oct. 23 - Completely open with 26 spots
Saturday, Oct. 29 - Completely open with 26 spots

The Wrinkles dives are on the 2nd Saturday of every month and I'd like to see us do the Mo2vation dive on the 4th Saturday of every month because it keeps them spread out nicely thoughout the month. However, for the first couple of months, I think we just need to take what we can get.

Personally, I'd like to see us go for Sept. 3rd because it allows us to see if we can fill up almost an entire boat our first time out.

All of this is up for discussion. We've got over 6 weeks before the first date above, which give us a little time to discuss it.

So, what are your thoughts?

Ok, I am in for September 3rd. I have called 800/555-9446 or 562-594-6968 to made my reservation for Labor Day Weekend September 3rd. This will be one of my 2 boat dives for the year.

The Sundiver supplies the AL80 tank. You need to bring your weights. Food and air fills are charged by the usage. Pay for what you use. In my experience, between the usual food and air it comes to about $20.00 to $25.00 depending on what you eat. Pluse tip of course.

I vote for the 10th of September as I will be diving in Florida during Labor Day Weekend. Also, I vote for the 29th of October.

Are they compatible with DIN?

Uummmm, has anyone asked Ken if HE can be on the boat on September 3rd? My recollection is he is going on a multiday dive trip that weekend...

How about the 18th instead?

fills are $4 each. AL80s are included. weights are not. Food prices are typical...$1 for candy bar, soda, fruit. $4 for beer. $5 for burger/warm lunch items.

Well, I forgot that Sept 3rd is Labor Day Weekend. This might conflict with many people's already established plans for a long weekend or it might be better because you have more time to do things on Sunday and Monday.

Ken's being awfully silent, considering we've decided to hijack his name for this one. But with a boat involved we'll probably see a lot more of him. We'll have to lay odds on whether he'll make more of his dives than Wrinkles makes of her dives. :D

Saturday, Sept. 10th is in direct conflict with the Wrinkles Dive in La Jolla. Sept. 18th is on a Sunday, so that might be a nice change.

It's up to you all. Make your case for each possibility.

I'll add a poll where you'll choose one date for Sept. and one for Oct. when you all think it's time to vote.

All dates work great on this end (minus 9/18 - Best Friend is getting married and I'm the Slave of Honor... I mean Maid of Honor + 10/1 - I'll be in La Paz).

I'm two thumbs up on Sept 3 and will book early next week.

Sounds like a total blast! By the way, if you haven't gone boat diving - it's a piece of cake. Yeah, I'm a little hooked but don't want to get too spoiled from shore diving. :D

Personally I'm all for Sept. 3rd, since I come from out of town, long weekends make it easy, I coach my daughter's club (soccer) team, and the season starts up around then, but they don't have games on holiday weekends.

Oct. 29th, I'll have just arrived in Maui :D

I, too, like the idea of doing this on the holiday weekend. Are we booking now or are we getting a consensus first? I can book for September 3 but I want to be sure it's exchangeable if we change to another weekend.
