I'm a Fish!
Well Ive been thinking, with the move THE CAVE comming out is it going to be a good thing for scuba diving in general.
one reason im thinking its going to be bad is.

1) when Fast and the Furious came out, think of all the dumb kids that went and bought all the types of cars that were in the movie. thats no big deal, but think of the kids that think since I seen it in a movie that they could do it or tyr it. I know from living in the city sub. that all the kids think they can drive like a profesional.MY CAR THIS MY CAR THAT. but they cant and state accendents are up for kids in high hp cars. Are all of the kids that see it going think "im going to go by the equempment and go cave diving or just diving in general because they saw the movie + its dangerous not knowing what your doing and movie leave out detail and saftey. I've Been cave diving in Mexico and i had to take classes and test to go + i was with a instructor for cave diving.

what your thoughts :bash: :krach:

Pure speculation upon my part, but I dare say that one or two divers will be the recipients of the Darwin Award for Excellence in Stupidity because of the movie.

I second that...

I agree. I think people will realize the creatures don't exist in real life, but will like what they see in the "cave" of the movie, and think they can explore caves like the people in the movie. There is an interesting article about it in Advanced Diver Magazine on how the film was shot - mostly in a studio with stunt and safety divers. The general public probably won't realize this fact and we'll probably see - like Kraken said - some Darwin Awards for some movie newbies thinking caves are safe places to dive.

Fast cars are cool, and driving faster is cooler.

SCUBA diving, despite what we may want to think, is not cool.

This movie will not inspire Darwin awards for cave diving accidents any more than Tomb Raider has inspired Darwin awards for extreme archaeology.

No different than Fear Factor, MTV, etc...

People will always try to emulate what they see... those that are lucky will [hopefully] learn from their mistakes... others are just doomed to repeat them.

Dunno, the movie is goofy enough that I don't expect a bunch of true believers to run right out and try to copy extreme caving. Its not supposed to be believable. Aside from the monsters, the split fins, dragging octopuses, exploding scooters, and the rest of the Bollywood flare are unlikely to inspire a bunch of copycat behavior...

Aaawwwww, Pants!!!
Now I can't think I'm "kewl" any longer . . .
Just go ahead and spoil my day, Mr. Smarty Pants !!!

Maybe, maybe not. Most of the people that will see the movie might not even bat an eyelash at the fact there are divers there. They might think it's just part of the plot......but they will notice the creatures for sure.

The other people, that know about diving already, are the ones that will pay attention to the diving part, they *should* know the dangers and training required for it.

In the other "boy racer" movies, they glorified and iconolized the cars, the driving and the lifestyle, that is why so many kids got hooked on it, whereas in this movie it might just be a mode of transport as far as most people are concerned.
