Well, I guess I'm going to have to start hangin around with Timeliner more often. John and Illini_Fan just don't seem to appreciate the fine art of low viz divin.
Today around 10, the dragon divers sub-chapter of the Texas Swamp Divers, inducted a new member while hovering about 6 inches or so off the bottom of beautiful Lake Texoma. You pretty much have to hover about 6 inches off the bottom or you wouldn't see much. We did however, get the rare opportunity to glimpse the biggest fish I've seen so far in my 75 dive career. I'll bet that catfish was every bit of 30 to 50 lbs. Possibly as long as 3-4 ft!! He came at me out of the haze headon, then turned toward John just long enough for him to catch a glimpse of his huge tail. John and I looked at each other, and I could just make out the blurbly outburst "Holy S___!!). Oh wait, that was me.... I think John said something like, "What the H___ was that!!"
Unfortunately, since Tom was soooo far away, (about 4'), he missed all the action. He'll just have to take our word for it.
Water temps were right at 69 deg for the entire dive from the surface to 45'. No thermoclines, but John coined the term, "illumicline", due to the fact that after about 25', absolutely no sunlight gets through that layer.
So, if anyone wants to experience awesomely fun Timeliner lovin low viz, along with daytime night dives, give me a call and we'll head on up to Eisenhower Park. It's only about 10 minutes from my house. I'll go anytime!!
