.....anyone making plans to dive the Texas Clipper after it is sunk towards the end of March or first of April 07',,,,,it will be sunk 19 miles off South Padre Island Tx. in approx. 130fsw......just curious if others are doing any planning.

I planning on diving the wreck, but it will be summer at the earliest for me.

Just heard from Tim O'Leary (American Diving - South Padre) --

Clipper currently on track to be sunk around the 1st of April, will be diveable 48 hrs. after.

Should be dives for varying levels of experience, with superstructure coming to within 45 fsw of the surface.

Looking forward to it.

The top of the wheelhouse should be about 40-45 feet, the deck at 70-80 range and the bottom should be at 135 feet.
The Texas Clipper is 473 feet long and 5 stories tall. She served as a troop transport at Iwo Jima and was called the Queens. The reefing weekend is the anniverary of when she was off Iwo Jima offloading troops and onloading wounded. She also served as a luxury cruise liner in the 50s in the Mediterranean then as the Texas A&M research vessel for 30 years.
All the hatches and walls are being removed. The stack and engine were removed providing a 5-story skylight. The result should be diver friendly and lots of fun!
There are pics on the www.divesouthpadre.com website.

I wonder if thats too far out of the way for the boats that service the Flower Gardens? It would make a fantastic end to a great trip.
