I plan on keeping a hosed SPG/PDC on my 1st stage, but would rather save it for backup because looking down at it all the time is annoying.
yes, and a backup it will be. Probably your wireless connection won't fail so you won't be looking at it at all, never mind all the time. (As you dive more, you'll probably find you aren't looking for pressure as much as you do now, either.)

No such thing. AI is either via a hose or a transmitter. Any "wired" solution would probably not last as it would get pulled out and damaged.

Wireless transmitters made today are quite reliable. That said mine has failed to link 2 or 3 times with over a hundred dives on it. So there is failure rate. I have never had it lose the link once established.

Do you want to buy your computer twice too?
Check this one out!
I bought mine from Aquarius on Del Monte. Paid a little more but it has the warranty that way.

I also have a Uwatec Smart Z which is a wireless AI computer. It does loose synch fairly often especially when I hit the trigger on my scooter.

As said above once you have passed fundies with more dives under your belt you will learn to look at your gauge only to back up what you already know you have left in your tank.

Dude, he's kidding! :)

I couldn't tell... Until he said the word 'ACME', heh.

I would personally go with wireless.. All the anti-wireless talk seems to be coming 99% from the people who either bought a cheap crappy wireless or have never tried it. (but it's a lot of money.. It is important to be sure about your purchases, too). Maybe try asking people other than on this board, too :)

When I first started diving I went for an all singing/dancing Air Intergrated computer and at the time thought it was the dogs bo**ocks. Now I much prefer diving with just an SPG and a wrist mount computer. I started to find some of the features on the air intergrated computer just plain annoying. I plan my dive round available air and only glance at the SPG about 15 times during the course of a dive. I would go for a simple wrist computer that can also double as a bottom timer and depth guage
