Yes...I wonder where all those folks are hiding.. I suspect some percentage of the owner population just doesn't pay attention to it, digs it out of a box when they want to go diving, charges it and then it goes back in the box when they get home. As long as it doesn't die whilst underwater life is good.. The other end of the spectrum are the data driven weirdos like us that obsessively track it and wonder what in the world is going on inside its tiny little Teric brain that would cause it to drop 2% one week and 16% the next when stored in an identical manner.

I suspect this is kind of like living with an exotic car/bike. You have to decide at some point if the fiddliness bothers you and then, if it does, does it bother you so much that you are sending it in every couple years for repairs. If it gets to that point does it get labeled an obsession and you are better off just getting something else so you can stop the madness and perma delete your battery level spreadsheet.
See my Christmas 2024 post

My Teric was bought in 2020 and needed warranty battery service twice in the first two years. Last time was in late 2021. Since then, I've been diving it at least a couple of times a week most weeks and done many trips with it as well. Likely 400-500 dives in that time. For the last couple of years, it's been losing battery when idle faster and faster. I finally decided to send it in as it had reached about 7-8% loss per day. It's hasn't really been a problem as I charge it a couple times a week after diving, but I'd rather address it before it fails more catastrophically.

I really like the Teric form factor and the floating compass especially. But all things considered, you are probably better off with a Perdix. User replaceable batteries are just a better deal for customers.

I charged mine 3 weeks ago and today it is now at 38%. I don't know what good it would do to send it in for a new battery as this one lasts long enough to dive with for a few days without charging. It is going on 5 years.

No longer using the Teric but I am using the Tern, don’t know of any big changes but the Tern’s take several weeks to show any drop, one is a few months old bought new and the other I bought used.

I would imagine that a fair number of Teric users simply charge their computers while in standby or while diving whenever it is indicated. This may be particularly true if the 2-year warranty period has expired. I have not heard of a catastrophic failure of a Teric battery.

If I ever make it past the 2-year warranty period, I would opt for the recommended general maintenance to get the battery replaced. General maintenance at Dive-Tronix costs $150.

Yep. I have a monthly reminder to put mine on the charger, targeting 65% for minimal stress on the battery. Fully charge nightly or bi-nightly on dive trips, typically doesn't go below 50%. I have a USB hub, so charging everything (phone, DCs, primary light, etc.) just isn't an issue.

Pretty much the same here - fine for diving trips but drains fast in storage. I’m on battery #3. Clearly a battery issue with Teric, but manageable at present - may send it in for service before my next trip in November. Mine was one of the first units our dealer got at launch in spring of 2018.

So my wife/DPFL and I are in the same situation. We both got Terics when they first became available. We are both on our 7th 🤔 models, either shearwater replaced or serviced. Living where we do they are our everyday watch/dive computer and each have 1500+ dives each among the 7 Terics.

Batteries are the #1 issue, after that AI antenna issues, and for mine the floating compass (which I love) going out of calibration sometimes DURING A DIVE. Fortunately, where we live/dive the compass is not a critical navigation necessity. .

While we do love the support from Shearwater, if there was a similar or better every day wear option on the market without the issues, we’d likely at least consider them.
