hey all, what are current water temps & visibility like? ... on average over the past couple weeks or so ...

Week and a half ago, I was getting 82-83. The vis was just ok (for Cozumel) from all of the rain.

Last 14 days of diving from down columbia deep to cedral has been 82F
VIS has varied from >100 to one day where is was around 25', but overall pretty decent.
particulates in the water have reduced it somewhat.
Currents overall have been mild, except for one day at tormentos where it was "going".
Weather this morning has been excellent, light wind, ocean smooth.

THANKS GUYS!

... it's always "going" at Tormentos, probably whey it was named what it is... ;-)

Actually, I've had many a tranquil dive on Tormentos Reef. Punta Tuniche, though....

Hey, Mark, how's tricks?

What does Cozumel look like at 25' visibility? Is it super dark at depth (since you can't see the surface?)

When we were there we could see for what seemed like infinity. I'm having a hard time picturing what it is like when the vis is low. (At home vis is so low you can't see anything that isn't 2-3 feet in front of your face, and super dark.)

A few years ago when I was on Cozumel there was a passby of a tropical storm that kicked up a lot of wave action in the Caribbean, including on the east side of the island, which stirred up a lot of particulate down on the south end. As a result, the viz on our dive at Colombia was down to about 35 feet or so. There was a lot of carping about it when we got back on the boat, followed by some chuckling about where a lot of us often dive we would kill for 35 foot viz. Spoiled by diving Cozumel? Yes, we are.

Just got back on Friday (Nov 4 - Nov 14)

Water temps were around 79-82 but there was quite a lot of fresh water coming in from rains before we got there (we were told).
Currents were mixed. Had some winds earlier in the trip (not a norte we think) and a mild Norte later which closed the port for a few hours. I think that front did not fully come down. Did a circle on Palancar Gardens one day. Did Tormentos during the temp port closure day and the currents were very slow. Did Punta Tunich on the second dive and the currents were fast - go figure.

The first wind day the currents picked up and we got a lot of sand, seaweed, etc for awhile so macro was tough in addition to faster current at some sites. Lot of backscatter in some photos - some eagle ray photos into the blue are totally unviewable. Vis on some dives dropped and others were very good. Mixed bag - changed daily. Still all good though.

Our friends that are still there say a Norte is coming Mon/Tues but I have not confirmed it.

We did Santa Rosa Wall today, 1st dive. The viz was great and the current was mild, quite mild infact. Temp was 83. 2nd dive was Tuniche. A bit more current, more excellent viz and again, 83 degrees.

Viz was much better than last week. 100+ for sure but guess it depends on how one measures it.

Two free swimming large Green Moreys today, one each dive.
