Last weekend dove for the first time with a bp/w, which was also my deepest dive so far, at 119 fsw. Also dove for the first time with a sling bottle, which was 40 cf.

The weekend after next, if all goes according to plan, will be my first dive with nitrox.

I just returned from Akumal, Mexico where I got to dive in three ceynotes. It was quite an experience. I will probably do it again in Novemebr from a cruise ship (please do not throw rocks).

Buying my first set of gear as we speak, and recently did my first overseas dive - in Vanuatu. But then, as a new diver, there will be alot of "firsts" to come...

last Monday, first time sitting behind the wheel of a double decker London bus under fourteen metres of water... room for one more on top!

MikeFerrara:
My most recent first is nowhere near as exciting.

For the first time since I started diving I'm totally bored with what I've been doing. I didn't do much over the winter (a first) and haven't even been able to force myself to haul the gear out to see what it looks like. I've seen all the local stuff a gazillion times and nothing I can think of seems worth the cost and work. I've seen all I can in the Missouri caves without really making a project out of it and that doesn't even seem worth it. I get blown out on the Great Lakes as often as not and still have 4 sets of doubles full of 18/45 that didn't get used the last time I got blown out. Even at that, 2 days of wreck dives with gas, lodging and charter fees costs us about a thousand bucks (for my wife and I) and these days there just isn't any broken boat that I want to pay a thousand bucks to see...and I've probably already seen it. I thought about forcing myself to do a local dive. I'd probably enjoy it once I was in the water but I'd have to dump all that expensive mix. On the other hand doing a dive where I need the expensive mix after not being in the water all winter probably isn't a great idea. I need to find something new to see or do underwater or I'm probably going to turn into a once or twice a year diver...if that.

How's that for a first? Should be in the whining forum huh?

Hey Mike.. I haven't checked your profile or your previous posts... but you sound like a prime candidate for freediving.. have you given it a go? I don't mean the shallow stuff.. I mean, get serious go deep freediving.. it's a hoot. I've never been much of a scuba diver but I know several very experienced scuba divers that have given up all their tech gear to go low tech... well kinda low tech.. good freediving equipment can get pretty gear intensive. Maybe you are a freediver, I don't know.. maybe it's time to take it to the next level or two though..

I did my first shore diving last month......wish I were five inches taller and 50% stronger.......altho rolling with the waves at shore made me think I was in some movie about survival. gave me a good laugh and probably the beach loungers too!

I made my first wreck dive a few days ago. When I saw the vague outline of that boat appear as I swam toward it, I felt something that I haven't felt before. I still don't know how to put it into words. I just know it was a wonderful experience, and that a whole new world has recently been opened to me.

Somehow, all the time, effort and money it took to gain the knowledge and ability to make that dive suddenly became more than worth it.

I can hardly wait to get to Key West next month........

installed my first double-cylinder set up ever. went well, though slow. it's
hard to get both threads to catch at the same time.

made my first double-cylinder dives this weekend (two dives). went very well

I made my first pool dive since shoulder rebuild #4 back in October.. the dive was 2 weekends ago and I found I need to make some comfort adjustments for the new scar tissue on my shoulder and adjust the wing a little. I also learned that a steel 72 with no weight belt was more negative than an AL 80 with a weight belt! ZZIIPP to the bottom!! It was awesome to be underwater again.
