i use the new zeagle FH7 and my buddy dives the zeagle FH6 and we dont have any problems. constantly down at 90 feet in mid 30 to 40 degree water all year long and they have surived ice dives also.

my buddies wife has zeagle envoy's and has not had a problem, and they are not enviromently sealed.

seams like most people are using atomics, apex, scubapro, and dive rite. as fdog said see what the shops near you sell and service. at the least it will be easy for you to get them serviced.

I'm curious, what is the differnece in the FH7 and FH6?

major difference is the weight. they have shaved off the extra metal on the body and changed the length of the yoke/din nut to make them lighter then the 6. the enviromental kit is now eaiser to remove. not sure on what the breathing difference is, you would have to look that up. i do know the FH7 with out the enviro kit breaths better then the FH7 with the enviro kit. they also added the miflex hoe

Apeks has worked very well for me, so I would recommend those. Some of the best breathing regs I have used. With that said, the Scubapro and Dive Rite regs mentioned are also solid choice and I see a lot of those out on the boats around here.

I suggest part of your selection criteria is what is your LDS a certified dealer in. If you purchase something via the web and they are not an authorized dealer you will miss out on such things like included rebuild kits etc..

I believe (and somebody correct me if I'm wrong) that you can purchase rebuild kits for the Apeks and Atomic regs. It is much more difficult to put your hands on rebuild kits for ScubaPro and Aqualung. If you go into tech diving and eventually acquire a whole mess of regulators, you're going to be at least tempted to learn to service them yourself. If I were to do it again, I'd think about that and make my life easier. Although I really love my Mk25/S600s, and they breathe better than anything else I've tried.

Lynn, to get rebuild kits for Atomics you need a "source". Most of the Apex clones are pretty easy to get.

As for the whole mess of regs. Touché I started working on my herd of Atomics. So far I have had good luck only one problematic reg that has fooled me and another tech.

Just a little food for thought to the OP. The ANU is a list of regulators and other equipment that the Navy has tested under very harsh conditions. Any regulator that breathes well at 190 feet of water on compressed air will breathe great with mixed gases. Just something to think about if you do not feel like spending TONS of money. You can get some good Aqualung and Mares products for a quarter of the price of an Atomic T2 whatever it is this week with a swivel and your choice of color coordinated second stage cover. You can view the ANU by googling "Navy ANU".

I checked several LDS I have driven to and the Apeks xtx50 DS4 DIN is $550 in my area. Another shop has the Atomic M1 for $576. This pricing may be due to the fact that I know him. I haven't gotten a Scubapro price yet.

For the two regs I have priced so far in my area, would I be better off paying $26 dollars more to get the Atomic? I wish the DS4 was a bit cheaper. I've hear the Atomic is really high, so my Apeks pricing is probably on the high side. I'll throw the SP in the mix when I get a price.

It has got to be Apeks all the way, the majority of the worlds best tech divers dive with them for a reason. Most of the worlds deepest dives 250m++ are done with Apeks.
I have also done thousands of dives with my Apek ATX 200 and have never had a problem with it.

I'm personally converting my entire fleet stage by stage over to diverite. Customer service is top notch, liberal free parts for life program, inexpensive, parts and service kits availibility, simplicicy, easy to work on without all the special tools required by the other brands, not over-priced, etc...the list goes on and on.

But anything from apeks, sp, atomic will be top notch. Just think long term when you have your own fleet of tech regs to care for. The most expensive, best regs are not always the most practical
