I am currently not a tech diver, but I do plan to go in that direction. I don't need the fancy titanium models but I don't want to get something cheap that I will regret buying later on. I would like for it to handle any type of diving I decide to do.

So far I'm thinking about the following features:

1. Extremely Dependable
2. High performance
3. Environmentally sealed 1st stage
4. DIN

A few people have told me the APEKS DS4 xtx50 would do everything I needed, but I wanted to get some opinions from you guys.

Thanks,

Marcus

The Apeks certainly would work well, and does for a lot of people.

So do the ScubaPro regs and the Atomic M1. They're all good technical regs.

With that said, I would place the most emphasis on the parts/service availability in your area.

Also, what do you have now? There is a lot to be said for keeping all your regs (both backgas and deco and stage) the same...it sure simplifies things when you have a bunch of them.

All the best, James

The Dive Rite regulators would also be a good choice. I am brutal on my gear and Dive Rite is one of regs that stands up to daily use and abuse (600+ dives a year).

i use the new zeagle FH7 and my buddy dives the zeagle FH6 and we dont have any problems. constantly down at 90 feet in mid 30 to 40 degree water all year long and they have surived ice dives also.

my buddies wife has zeagle envoy's and has not had a problem, and they are not enviromently sealed.

seams like most people are using atomics, apex, scubapro, and dive rite. as fdog said see what the shops near you sell and service. at the least it will be easy for you to get them serviced.

The Atomic M1 also fits the bill.

I use Hollis 212's, others use atomic, scuba pro dive rite and for the price check out the new HOG regulators. They are about $100.00, 1st stage about $150. So your talking about $300 with 1st stage, 2d stage and hose. Not to bad. So for 2 sets about $600

I would also suggest looking into the Zeagles. Another option is to hook up with other "tech" divers in your area and see what they are using and suggest.

I happen to like the expensive titanium regs, but can't use them in high PO2 service. I use T1's for backgas, and M1's for deco gas. I also rent M1's on my liveaboard because of their durability.

I did notice that the Flathead VI has went down to $350 now. I've seen good reviews on that one, but I've never tried one out. I will look into that line as well.
