"tech" rig for a new diver ?

The BC (new) is only $300
the BP/W set up to suit is $1700. My current BC is only 18 months old so I just can't justify the extra cost.

How the hell is the BP/W $1700 ?
Just as an examle ->

I guess that is the price in NZD dollars which is about 1300us and as they also have all the prices with taxes included its about 1150 in US? Which is not far from the price of a cinch given all the import is more expensive.

In fairness thats the top of the line Halcyon with ally backplate,backplate 4kg lead and BIG weight pockets built in. We are a pimple on the rear end of the world so we pay for the privilage.
What do you guys pay for a NEW poodle jacket BC then? we pay between 300 and $1500nzd
I got an exceptionally good deal on my AI computer and paid $800 for a sherwood computer

Hi Kazbanz,
I live in Australia so get similarly screwed. That's why I now buy all large purchases online. I try to support my LDS but simply can't justify the cost different. Item's are usually less than half price when shipped from the US, somtimes a third.
Jacket BC's for adults are around the $1k mark for midrange adult size here - i bought 4 complete HOG setups for less than the $1700 you quote above. (2x SS 30# cold water, 2x Al, 23# for travel)

I suppose Aussie and NZ Customs would get suspicious if I showed up for a dive trip with six or so BP/Ws.

If not, the trip could "pay for itself."

Even the Halcyon Infinity was $780 Cdn with the AL bp, 30# wing, Storage Pak and 6 lb STA. I'm pretty sure most bp & w's are around $400 or $500...

Your kids WILL outgrow the XXXS BCD, but they may never outgrow the short bp & w. Many women use small bp's.

Ayisha, give me your LDS address I agree you can get some stuff from DDS in StC about that range but I would consider 780cdn being a very good price, and 400 and 500 very good for other BPs. May be the prices dropped I donno. But as I have seen myself the prices in Melbourne are quite steep on dive gear and my friends from there were usually ordering stuff online.

If you leave close to the border you can also save on shipping sometimes by shipping to the closest UPS store in the US. Then dip it in the closest mud hole and claim on the customs that you have been diving it for ages Then you can save another 13%
