I've done the "pull someone off to the side and tell them what the deal is" thing before -- and I've had many people do it to me as well. Just pass on the love...;)

I remember being 15 and thinking that I had pretty much everything figured out. Of course I didn't but in this case, those things you think you have figured out that you haven't will kill you. Period.

Being a "dive instructor" of any variety is not the logical conclusion of diver training. It does not mean you are a better diver then the person who has not taken instructor training. This is a myth that has been perpetuated by certain agencies in their quest for money. Teaching is a completely different discipline and requires a completely different set of motivations and skills. I know great divers who are lousy teachers and great teachers who are lousy divers. The two do not necessarily go hand in hand.

For the next few years, concentrate on becoming a good diver. All the courses you have taken, factual or not, will not count to a hill of beans when you enquire about trimix instructor training or cave instructor training. In fact, more than likely they will count against you as an indication of your true motivations in diving which appear to be getting a bunch of cards rather then getting the actual experience. Those of us who are serious technical divers do not advertise the fact that we may have taken a "peak performance buoyancy class" or something similar in our past and are actually more likely embarrassed about it.

Finally, who do you think is going to take a diving course involving cave diving or technical diving from an 18 year old? Honestly, ask yourself this question. Up until now you have done a bunch of certifications which as far as technical diving or cave diving are meaningless. They will have zero impact on your ability to convince anyone you are the person to teach them not to kill themselves.

Up until now, you have been lucky with things like the number of wreck penetrations you have done with no true training in this regard. I would not want to hear about you in the "incidents" area of this board but the direction you are heading makes this more likely every time you do one of these dives.

There are no scuba police but take a second and think about the impact this would have on your family if you were to die doing something your parents supported. Make the first serious decision about your diving future and slow down, get the experience and make your decisions based on knowledge and experience, not testosterone.

I think everybody needs to stop responding to this troll. We've got another Hybrid here and we shouldn't take anything he (or his "brother") says seriously.

Note to Mods- time to check this fellow out.

Jordan,

It is pretty clear that you have read several advance dive training manuals. Use the knowlegde that you have read to help make you a safer diver not a dangerous one...

I too, have read just about every dive training manual I could get ahold of, but that doesn't allow me to talk the talk or for that matter to, DIVE IT...

You remind me of a 17 yo who wanted to learn to fly and his parents wanted to reward their son for graduating early from high school with a 4.0 and almost scoring a perfect score on his SAT. He purchased a Jeppesen Private Pilot training kit, didn't speak to any flight instructors, and went home to read, read, read... One month had passed and he showed up at the airport to learn to fly. The boss sent him to me for an Intro flight(30 minute ground school/30 minute flight). We never made it through the ground school portion... The first words out of his mouth were, " I am ready to start the Instrument rating and work towards my Commercial Pilot certificate. I have read all of the Private Pilot manuals and have over 40 hours of flight simulator experince, so I pretty much can fly the plane with me eyes closed, therefore since I can do that why not just go straight to instrument flying..."
We had a very, very long talk... He eventually had to give up flying... Daddy purchased advance equipment for him, a tail dragger, and he decided to give it a test flight. The boy had 3 hours of actual flight experince, oh and the 40 hrs of flight sim time (Microsoft Flight Simulator training). He flew into a tree at his Daddy's farm... Never saw him again. I manage to come out of it without speaking to the FAA... Somehow I don't think it was reported.

Just be happy with being a beginner. Concentrate on graduating from high school, get diving experience at YOUR current level, then go after the advanced training when you are older/mature.

My advice to YOU. Don't sink into the deep blue beyond the trimix levels. Take responsibilty for YOUR actions here, and Rescue yourself. Start a NEW thread about who YOU REALLY are and your experince.

good advice! hopefully my brother will get through his bullet proof mind...
about that story my dad told me something simular about that. My dad is currently has an ATP and works for NetJets. I personnaly have just finished my first solo flight consisting of traffic paterns and touch and go's at page field airport, but I can seriously say that any one whom thinks they can read the jeppsan private pilots manual and jump straight to being able to do IFR and get a 2nd class medical and be a commerical pilot has to of lost their mind. It would kind of be like my brother saying "ok I read the first sentence now I am fully trained to fly the 747 AirForce One"....

Based on sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation I'm guessing you and your brother must have missed all the same classes in school.

:shakehead:

aw, jim, come on...nothing like a good train wreck, and since pilot fish has been confining himself to the pub, this is what we have left...

:trainwreck:

um, it's only 2 days old...

are you sock puppet #3? :D
