I would recommend you hold off buying a computer untill well after you complete your training. I doubt the training will involve any computer dives other than profiles generated on a desktop and I think you will have a better idea of if you even need one after training.
I used an OMS bottom timer for a long time, bought a suunto vytec and even not it is my bottom timer. My primary computer is a HS explorer model O but I still cut desktop profiles for all my serious dives.
 
Was wondering if anyone one knew of a good trimix dive - computer, that allowed for up to five different gas blends? I have been using V-Planner but am tired of having to write things out on my slate, and gets annoying when using a lift bag to do deco's on, it really adds to my task loading when I have to try and read my handwriting, or find my stop and time, reel in, change gas, all at once.

I am not sure that those are still on hold for consumer delivery....been a few bugs I understand.

It definately looks interesting, I didn't see how many different gas mixes you could use.
 
I cast another for the VR3 you can do 10 gases. plus its been around I belive since 96

Last message indicated that issues were worked out and they are in production. First run is due to be delivered end of this month.
 
Put another vote down for the VR3. No other computer can grow with you as you progress from OC scuba to rebreather or mixed gases the way the VR3 can.

As long as you keep putting in money to unlock the various features
