Hey all....

I was wondering what computers and bottom timers everybody uses and what they think about them. I'm getting ready to purchase a new computer after my NTEC with technical EANx and Staged Deco/Extended range Course but i'm having trouble selecting one out of the top picks like the VR3, NiTek duo, OxyCheq, SmartTec and the Aeries T3.

Also, Anybody gotten their hands on a new Aeris CompuMask? I was checking one out at the dive shop today and was wondering if anybody was using one yet?

I use the Dive Rite Nitek Duos for both sport and tech diving....great unit and easy to use....none of that crap so many dive computers have. Functions as a bottom timer in Gauge mode. 2 gas and calc. stops as deep as 90ft..

I use a Dell laptop with V-Planner on it. Plug in your gas and your plan and it squirts out your profile. Then you can tweak it if you don't like the curve, or you expect weather and want to hang at 20 for both 10 and 20 time, or whatever.

Write the last part of it in your wetnotes. (it isn't that tough to remember the first part, as its all minute here, minute there, etc.) Make sure you follow the plan.

If you want to get anal you can squirt out another profile of the same depth but ten minutes longer, or the same time but 20' deeper. You won't find massive differences (unless you're going deeper than you should be and still be asking this question), but you'll see some variance in the hang times.

I use a Uwatec bottom timer to track the details. They're reasonably inexpensive.

YMMV.

How do you know when to go up if it does not beep at you ?

:rofl3: :) I love it!!!

The Duo is about as basic as you can buy-----no bells/whistles or lights flashing....the few alarms settings it does have I shut off....I come up when my gas supply gets around 100psi....:eyebrow: !!

;) ;)

Why do you need a computer? What type of dives do you expect to use it on?

I only plan to use a computer as a back up only if it is needed for an "oh Sh**" that i havent taken into consideration... other then that i use hard tables with the plan I made for the dive along with a bottom timer and watch.

Thanks for all the info guys.

I'll second the VR3. Proven workhorse.

Dive rite/Nitek is supposed to have a new computer out soon that replaces the Nitek HE. I am curious to see how it performs cause I really like the HE (never owned one though). Right now I use tables and a uwatec bottom timer, works great and easy to adjust on the fly.
