One more suggestion: I had an Aeris XT with a hard plastic plate, and I think the part was common to some other BC's ( I think Genesis was one). The plate can crack near the cam band. Since the strap does not lace through the inner pack the tank can flop around. Also the crack can be under a piece of rubber gripping material.

With the tank out, pull on the strap and twist it to make sure this isn't the case. Hopefully you'll not have that problem.

Thanks for all of the ideas and suggestions. I don't see any physical damage and the tank band is gripping the tank tightly enough. I'm starting to think maybe it is a size issue, but I hope not. What I think is happening is the tank is 'twisting' at the cam band. In other words, the bottom and top of the tank are somewhat able to swing back and forth about 6 inches each way. I think it is the whole plastic backpack part that is moving as the tank is cinched down tightly to it and it looks and feels very secure when not on my back. I think my next move is to try adjusting the cumberbund and then make sure the BC is as tightly attached to the backpack piece as possible. Yesterday I wore the tank a little lower than I usually do and it wasn't as bad.

What is the hard tank holder part shaped like? Is it just flat or does it curve? If it's just a flat piece of plastic you could try to attach some wing-style STAs to either side of where the tank rests, maybe with self tapping screws. That way the tank would rest down in between them and touch both, which should stop the wobbling.

If it's curved something's broken.

Ah, gotta start reading all the posts. Never mind about ^^^. If that's the case take it back to wherever you got it if you can.

Sideband:
I have a Genesis Cobra BCD and for the most part I like it. As I more dives in and my buoyancy gets better I am starting to notice a small 'problem' though. It has a single tank band and I am now noticing that my tank is flopping around on me. I had an instructor look at my setup today and she said it looked ok as far as height of the tank and all. Has anyone else had and solved this problem before? A new BC or BP/wing is out of the question this year so try to steer away from those types of solutions. I don't see a place for a second tank band but I'm going to look it over and see if maybe I can get a piece of webbing either below or above the current band and maybe just use a quick connect or something to help hold it stable. While we were doing fin pivots in the pool today I was having to hold it centered to keep from rolling over on my side.

You could try a tighter strap system, check this out...

Air Lock = $95 each....

Bio Lock = $63 each....

DeepSeaSupply Cam Strap Pads = $10 / pair......

Such a deal!

Actually, we have the Bio Lock Tank Strap for $59 and I like it a lot more than the Mares Air Lock system...

A single BC strap and single tank will move a little. You can minimize this with the correct fitting, adjustment, tight band, etc. but it will move a little.
