"Interesting statement to make regarding what "most divers in Alberta use". We start many OW students right away in Dry Suits. They do a class and pool orientation, then do the entire OW portion in their dry suit, with a fifth dive added for Dry Suit dive 2 for their certification. Generalizations do nothing to help the point you are trying to make."

these people seem to think the AOW is too much for new students to learn better not tell them we add the dificulity of drysuit diving into the ow course too theyll have a bird ;) but yah we have a high number in edmonton too.

but every wetsuit manufacture has the temp ratings of the suits on there wedsite plus padi has general ratings for what they recomond you use for where your diving. obv people will have to dive there own preference but if your going to nit pick the average ratings of wetsuits, which is a fairly commen knowlage to all divers in the ow class, well thats why i usually dont have an account on here lol

what certification lets you do rescure before ow???? and the free flow isnt confirmed thats just one divers opinion who wasnt at the lake.
Most stores in edmonton do an altitude dive with the AOW giving them more training for cold water and diving in the mountians, and further more con ed does include underwater nav photo or any of thoses so just cause you dont push the AOW your still promoting further education!

" And if the diver's buddy was a pro- then they should have their card yanked. A buddy will see a diver overweighted as will a pro"

Whats the first thing you get tought in your rescue course??? 100 points anybody anybody???

what certification lets you do rescure before ow????
He said Rescue before AOW ... and that would be NAUI and SEI, to name two agencies I'm aware of that do so.

It makes sense, if you're interested in maximizing safety rather than profits. Rescue is the ONLY class other than OW that I believe is appropriate for ALL recreational divers. AOW is really a class of choice ... but requiring it before Rescue is a business decision, because it means that some people will take AOW simply becaue they "have" to in order to get into the Rescue class. I don't see that as being in the student's best interest.

No agency permits rescue before OW. But we allow it before AOW. And the 3 rescue skills I noted are taught in the OW class. Altitude is a joke dive as all the dives are done at altitude. I cover altitude procedures in OW as well as buoyancy and trim. If a student cannot do basic skills in trim and in midwater they cannot even start AOW. I do promote con ed. When the student is ready for it. I have 6 dives in AOW - Advanced Skills, UW Nav, Night/Low Vis, Deep, Search and Recovery, and Buddy Skills and Assist. I will sub wreck for S&R. That is the AOW class I teach. All dives are mandatory except where noted a substitution is available.

And students must have 10 additional dives post OW on their own with a buddy to begin any con ed class I offer.

see and i dissagree becuase in the AOW you learn/practice your peak perform and your under water nav but also search and recovery, 3 areas you need to be proficient in to pass the PADI rescue course. Maybe the other organizations have less requirments for there rescue classes but id never want an ow student in my rescue courses!
