DvrRick:I may be heading up there this summer and it never occured to me to dive there (Duh!). What is the water temp in the summer months and what is the usual viz? Wow, a whole new world of possibilities just opened up. Thank you!
boomx5:Well, the water temps vary with depth but if you are staying in the 100' range it should be in the 50s-60's...ish. The vis is usually great with about 60'-80' of vis year around. There are a bunch of places to dive up there, so just PM me sometime and I'll get you directions.
DvrRick:Sounds like the temp here in Laguna Beach, CA for diving but much, much better viz. My brother-in-law has a cabin up there so..... I think I'll have to hit him up. Thanks boomx5!
CALI68:Scott, Thanks for the info. One of my goals this year is to buy an X Scooter this summer and hit the Rubicon Wall. I understand the surface swim is pretty long if you want to hit the wall from shore. What are your thoughts?
boomx5:Hey Chris,
Rubicon is definately a long swim. It's better to walk most of the way out there, do a minor swim and then drop down on the wall. All together it takes about 20-30 minutes just to get out there. On the other hand, it's about a 6-8 minute scooter ride and it makes seeing the wall a whole lot easier. We're waiting for the DL Bliss to open up again so we can start diving there again. Another thing is, we have an
XP/X-Scooter demo day scheduled for June 4th just in case you want to put in on your calender. Once the snow starts to melt, we are going to start diving up there more so we'll keep everyone posted on the SAUE site so everyone can join in.
I know I've posted the link before, but I think this link shows DL Bliss/Rubicon the best. There are some surface as well as underwater photos.
