The good news is there are thousands of extended and special characters that computers can display. The bad news is they can display unpredictably or not at all on different computers connected to the Internet around the world. Occasionally there is a need to consistently display special symbols and formatting regardless of these limitations, for example:
The solution is to display them as images. You can capture images like these on your computer with a program capable of generating them. The same technique can be used to display tables:
Problem Characters
Empty rectangles and odd character sequences have been substituted for the following typographic characters after forum software upgrades. Many word processing programs will automatically substitute typographic symbols when more conventional "keyboard" symbols are entered. The safest option is to use the typed sequence and avoid the substituted symbols.
Complex Tables
ScubaBoard's editor supports simple tables but is limited compared to word processing and spreadsheet programs. Again, the solution is to display the table as an image captured from another program:See: Special Character Display Issues for more details.
