I have the Dive Rite XT2 regs, and the primary came with what looks like just over 90 degree swivel (110 degrees?), and after using it one time in the pool, I still felt like it was pulling to my right, and I had to keep readjusting to the left. So, I thought maybe finding a swivel that moves in all directions, not just one 'plane'.

120* is the standard but I've never really like them, I much prefer being able to use a ball swivel.
Is it normal practice to (re)place one at home, onto a different hose? Or should it be done by a tech?
On this forum it would seem that it is standard practice to fully rebuild your own regulators, but I would truly argue that every diver should be comfortable replacing their own hoses and a swivel is treated like a hose. Very much considered normal practice to do that yourself.

I've tried both a 90degree and a (70 degree / 110 degree) adapter, and I didn't quite like the hose angle on the 70 degree as it clipped under the arm a little and pulled down on the reg. For me the 90 degree was goldilocks, as it put the hose straight down in loop under the arm without arm movement tugging at the reg.

Sure. Thanks!
First stage, get a wrench that fits the fitting, loosen the old hose, remove by hand

By hand screw in new hose, hand tight

Tighten slightly, barely noticeable on the wrench.

Next swivel end

The big end of the hose, normally screwed on the second stage, the swivel screws into the hose, using two wrenches (Omni needs a thin wrench) slightly tighten

The regulator end screws into by hand only, make sure you check this before each dive, screw on and that’s it (the oring on the second help keep tension on the nut.

I appreciate the step by steps. Good to know! Thanks-

Which ball swivel do you use/prefer/recommend?

Which ball swivel do you use/prefer/recommend?
Most of mine are Omniswivels, as stated above they are also multi tools for me with the Poseidon regulators since they also provide the adapter function and with the Jetstream/Xstream the very necessary OPV function so for that they are definitely worth it. I probably have 12 different Omni/Poseidon adapters and another dozen standard Omni's. I do genuinely prefer these and think they are better, plus they're made in the USA which is nice. The newest V2's have a set screw that captures the spindle which means they require two screws to fail in order for it to separate.

I do have a half dozen or so of the ball swivels from Cave Adventurers and haven't had an issue with them, and at $35, it's much easier to swallow than $100 for the Omniswivel. For my standard regulators I consider them interchangeable.

Thanks for the info. Will consider both.

Is the 9/16" the standard fit (for Dive Rite XT2)?
