Another question about the Vyper Air, how is the backlight? I find the backlight on many computers they economize a bit too much and it's dim enough to be muddy in low-viz situations. I'd like a good bright backlight.

If it is anything like the Vytec DS or Vyper 2, its not bright enough for my old eyes to read it in muck or darkness

The Vyper Air fits in the DSS wrist mount well. I haven't gone diving with mine yet, but I have an SK-7 compass in a DSS wrist mount and love it. It stays on your arm and doesn't roll around. I would recommend the DSS wrist mount with bungy cord or a console unit over the stock wrist band.

The reason I purchased a Suunto Vyper Air was because I lost a wrist unit to a broken strap, and I wanted a computer that worked with my Suunto pressure transmitter.

I'm faced with a similar question. Trying to decide between a Vyper 2 or a Vytec DS with no transmitter. The air-integration and compass don't matter to me, as i plan to use neither! What about focusing on just the deco performance and usability. How much difference does the 4-button interface make??
