Suunto Cobra - Good or bad

I bought a Cobra (full package with quick release, compass, download cable, the works) when I got my reg set, I absolutely hated it. Console computers stink, IMO, at least they aren't for me. Nice, maybe if you like to dive with a minibrick tethered to you, but typical surface logic, it looked good in the store.

Fortunately, my LDS took it back (minus a 15% restocking charge) and sold me a Vytec. I have been very happy with a wrist mounted computer, I've very glad I had the option to fix my mistake.

the cobra is a good computer but too expensive

it's just the same like a vyper no more, just it have the gauge...

I've had mine about 5 months...and 37 dives. It is a solid and easy to use computer, but like a lot of others, I wish I'd gone with a wristmount. The software is quirky and I had a lot of trouble getting it to download properly with the USB cable (could just be me). I'm not sure if I believe the SAC it's giving me. One of these days I'm going to actually calculate it and see if it's close to the computer. I want to eventually get into tech/wreck/cave diving and it won't serve me well in that sense. Knowing what I know now and with the direction my diving is going in, I wish I'd saved up another $450 or so and popped for a VR3. For instance, I just found out that you can download ebooks into a VR3 for those long, boring deco hangs! D'oh!!

I have a Cobra and Vytec and like them both. I have 1,000+ dives on both computers without any problems. I like the Vytec with the transmitter and the wristmount. I use both with diving since I do not like being dependent on the electronic pressure readout of the Vytec without a backup. I know many professionals and they swear by Suunto. Many are having problems with Uwatec since its change in ownership and are switching.
