Watch this space - somebody is going to dive that soon!

That somebody better bring a a boat with a chamber, or a yacht with chopper pad. The nearest chamber is in Cebu city.

Also be prepared to duct-tape your mask to your face. I understand that the sub-surface current rips in that area.

I'll tell you all the details when its done but with regards to currents - plan on slack neaps. BTW its not me :D

With regards to the chamber onboard - just do the deco properly :D afterall if somethings goes wrong it will be ascent from depth which will be very hard to treat regardless of where the chamber is or minor type II (joint pains) - which you can just hop back in the water for.

List,
I have just spent the last 2-3 weeks in South Leyte checking out the ideal of diving the wrecks such as the Yamashiro and the Fuso. First off anybody considering diving on these wrecks better be willing to go real deep. These wrecks are in the 150-200 meter range. Getting to South Leyte is a logistical nightmare plus trying to get helium, 02 and everything else you would need. Nearest compressor is about 4 hours away. As far as boats you will be lucky to find a bonka boat big enough to put 2 divers in. There are some nice large boats properly set up for diving in Cebu which would be more then happy to take you. Currents, ripping enough to blow you off the wreck. From what I gather the currents there make the diving just about undiveable. From what was mentioned to me is that a group of well qualified technical divers planned to dive the wreck but after arriving decided it was unsafe due to a combination of depth and the currents. The two do not mix together to well. The depths where not all that bad but the addition of the currents definetly increased the risk factors.

Graham- when are you coming to Thailand to do some cave diving?? If I can get a plane out of here we are suppose to go back down to check out two new caves plus do another deep dive to 200 meters in one.

Bruce,

Let me know when your in Manila - lets meet to discuss Caves :D If you need a place to stay we have space.

The team I was talking about is the one you heard about. They were prepared for a 150m + dive but on previous soundings had seen something significantly shallower which they hoped was the pagoda. Upon arriving and sounding again there was a pile of rubble (consistent with the sinking reports) and no part of the wreck as shallow as they had thought and no slack water with 3-4 knot currents (not ideal for super deep diving)
