I know that DIR supports the idea of carrying some basic tools in one's thigh pockets, but what about surface marking devices (strobe, dye, mirror, light sticks, etc)? Are these considered useful tools? If so, where should they be stored? Please respond.

Wow. Well, I suppose giant, red, all-caps lettering could be used as a surface marking device, but it's not something I would have thought of.
