I am quite pleased with my Vyper after I got rid of the OEM wrist strap and put it in a DSS low profile mount with bungee cords. Much more comfortable and easiewr to put on and take off!

Tried out a Suunto Stinger before I decided to get my own dive computer... Bought a Mares Nemo, and will probably get a Suunto when I next upgrade. The new D6 perhaps :D

Suunto are bulletproof computers. I have had my Stinger now since it first hit the UK and it has had three batteries and some 1,000 plus dives, and it is still going strong. I wear it each and every day as a normal watch, too, so it gets a battering when I am mountain-biking, and it has never let me down.

If you want a watch-style, then you can get a Mosquito (cheaper, plastic body) or go for the Stinger (more expensive, metal body) or the D6 (more expensive again, metal body). I think the Stinger and D6 look much nicer, but then that's me.

If you want a normal-size, then you can get the cheap-and-cheerful Gekko, or go a bit more expensive and get the Vyper. In the Uk there is only £70 difference between the two at RRP. I have seen the Gekko for £150!

All of the above will handle nitrox, full decompression and are all wrist-mounted. It all depends on the amount of dives you are going to be doing and how much money you want to spend – if you only dive 10 times a year on holiday, then the Mozzie or the Gekko might be the best bet, but if you are planning on diving more often and money isn't a problem, then you might want to splash out on one of the others.

Whichever you get, won't let you down.

Id go along with saying Suunto make some of the best recreational computers on the market.

I own a Macintosh and a Gekko. The extra money for the Vyper or Cobra didn't buy any functions that I needed or could use.

...don't have a computer yet but when I do go for one it will definitely be a Suunto(Vytec DS or Vytec). From what I have read and what I have been told by other divers the Suunto products seem to be the best computers available to the recreational diver and most of them have so much room for growth that you will most likely be using them well into technical diving if that is where diving takes you.

I love my Suunto Vyper but it's a very conservative computer and I'm a conservative kind of guy. I bought it *because* it's a very conservative computer.

I'll join in too. Posted on this several times, I have a Vyper and love it. The positives for me are big display, easy to read, easy to use, dependable.

Looking to get a wrist worn computer, I am looking to eventually use Nitrox. My local shop sells Sunnto, and of course tells me that they are the best. Just looking for a few outside opinions before I buy. Specific model recomendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your shop told you the truth. This year Suunto sold their millionth dive computer. The company is dedicated to quality and innovation.

We just purchased the Suunto Stinger. Ended up going that way due to the smaller size. The computer has it all except air integration. The body is more durable than the Mosquito. Besides, the LDS gave us an amazing deal on the two computers + PC interface.
