Sunnto computers, opinions wanted.

What are you looking for out of a computer? I use both Suunto and Oceanic. Two very different computers -- however, both are high quality.

Are you look for hoseless, air integrated, budget, conservative ????

Vytec. 500-some dives on it. Rules. Upgraded from an Oceanic Data Trans Brick thing. The thing with the Suunto: It just works and works. I beat the snot out of this thing. I've cracked the clear cover a number of times I've hit it so hard when lobstering, or set my waterheater on it, etc. It has never failed. Never lost AI. Never went "Suunto Wacko" - perfect. Never one problem ever.

A rocking gauge mode. Nitrox. Up to three gas mixes. TONS of people have them on SB so you have a network of users here if you ever get in a jam or need assistance. Their software isn't cutting edge (none of them are) but it works for me and downloads every time I hook my computer up.

Got one for Wifie a couple of summers ago. She has about 100 dives on it. Perfect.

Plus, you can chuck that lame wrist band it comes with and get a Tobin Bungee Mount for the thing. How much does that rule?

Don't mess around. Buy one computer. Get a Suunto.

Vyper is on my shopping list for the spring. Guage mode, download, nice software, big display, does all I need. If only they were a bit cheaper.

Reading this post makes my day....positive feedback about this computer is certainly what I want to hear. my Vytec ships out tomorrow and I hope to have it within a week. I decided to get the transmitter with it. Not 100% sure I want to go completely away from a SPG, but I think if it proves reliable I will do just that....

If you use a macintosh computer, be aware that Suunto dive computers are not compatible with it.

I have a vytec and love it, had it two years and have about 60 dives on it. The local techies seem to like them too. Never had problems with the transmitter, and like getting SAC rate computations from the software. Have not yet diven up the SPG though, other than a check at the start of the dive, at about 10 ft, i don't use it much any more.

I have hundreds of dives, rec and tec, on my VyTec and still love it! The transmitter is very convenient, giving all the data you need in one glance. For me, the transmitter has not been 100% reliable, so I still have SPG for any serious dive.

The gas switches are easy to make and all functions are very intuitive--read the manual once, then stash it.

Transmitter failures are rare, except: Will always fail if gas is turned off when UW when doing a valve drill. Will often fail when battery power is low due to very cold weather and water. Will sometimes fail during surface interval if reg is left pressurized between dives.

I have a Vyper by Suunto it's two and a half yrs old 170 loged and I have the download software, I love it for recrational diving and some tech diving.

Being a kool-aid drinker and all that rot.

Love it. I highly recommend checking out Tobin's boot for the Vyper / Vytec. Its genius and is so much more secure and easy to manage than that wack accordion strap thingy that came with this.
