Looking to get a wrist worn computer, I am looking to eventually use Nitrox. My local shop sells Sunnto, and of course tells me that they are the best. Just looking for a few outside opinions before I buy. Specific model recomendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

Searching this forum for "Sunnto" came up with 134 threads. Spelling it correctly and searching for "Suunto" came up with the maximum 500 threads. It's the most discussed brand of computer on the board.

I started with a Cobra. Later I bought a Vyper. The Cobra was really a waste of $. Although it is rather conservative the Vyper does everything I need it to do, Including Nitrox. It also works in Guage Mode so I can use it as a depth guage/bottom timer for my technical diving (Tables). I don't think I've ever had it in Air Mode as the Nitrox reverts to 21%. Being able to log the dives in the Suunto dive manager is a big plus that I really like!!
If you want to save a few bucks the Gekko is basicaly the same computer but doesn't have a backlight or the download function.

Best of luck!! Let us know what you end up getting

I have the Stinger, and am really happy with it. The PC interface is a little dated these days (ie, its not USB) but still works well, even though you have to fork out extra dollars for the interface cable, or make your own)

I went for the Stinger because of its size, which means I can still use it as a watch mainly when I'm diving for a week or weekend. (Its still a bit too bulky for everyday use). One prob with it is that it doesn't have a user-replaceable battery, so it needs to be changed at a Suunto service centre once every year or two, depending on how much diving you do.

Major factors about choosing a watch-size (Stinger, Mosquito, D6, D9) over the larger ones (Vyper, Vytec, Gekko) are a larger display vs wearing when not diving.

If I never need to replace my Stinger, it will be with another Suunto. Hell, if you want to buy a 2nd hand Stinger, I'd by a D6 tomorrow :)

I find the search is less effective with that many results. Too broad a topic area.

As far as suunto I have had a vytec since 2002 and I have been very happy with it.

I have the low-budget Gekko. Basically the same computer as the Vyper, but without any backlight and PC-interface. If I were to buy one now, I would go for the Vyper. No huge price difference. And btw, the interface is now available with USB connection!

Still have, use and love my Suunto Stinger which I bought the year it came out. Get it serviced every year; wouldn't think of using anything else (well, I'd think about it, but you know what I mean)...
