We’ve lost days to nortes but not to hurricanes/tropical storms - and we’ve been throughout the years, about every two months. But all it takes is the right timing and our lucky streak will be over. As @ggunn said ‘ you pays yer money and you takes yer chances’. I won’t be one of those folks who says ‘you’re in paradise, who cares’ because I very much care about getting my dive days in. I get it.

To the best of my knowlage 'your' dive shop has never charged a customer for a dive trip canceled due to a port closure. I personaly have never seen a charge for any canceled trips.:)
Lol...I don't pay 'cause I've never been asked to pay not because I refused to pay. :)

My wife and I have been making trips to Coz for over 10 years now and go during all seasons. When we visit are driven more by when we have the time to get a way vs what time of year it is. Over that time we've lost more dives due to Norte events than we have for hurricanes. Anecdotally speaking, the Nortes seem to have become more frequent over the years as compared to the hurricanes.

All a Norte is, is a cold front so, yes, they would be 20x (50x ?) more common than a 'cane. Back in the day, SB member Cristi would track the port closures over the years by month but she sold her dive op so that tracking 'service' stopped.

Thanks, this is what I had suspected! Nortes worry me the most as they seem more common and to be more port closures. Hurricanes rarely hit and even a tropical storm will pass .

Yes. You can count on several nortes per year, mostly in the winter, closing the port periodically. Closures for tropical systems, mostly in the summer, are less common.

Port closed at 6:00 PM. High winds forecasted East by NE this evening thru Friday. Currently absolutely beautiful calm evening. Hopefully in the AM it will open for the sites above Palancar

Already amended, open north of Palancar

I’m not seeing anything on windguru out of the northeast until a teeny blip on July 4th. Hoping you get great diving days!

The NHC is watching an area in the Bay of Campeche.

Port closed again yesterday at 1300, no real winds in town. Some rain in the afternoon but nothing warranting a full closure. Hopefully it will reopen early. Suspect the current port Captain is rattled over the fatality from the boat sinking last Sunday evening up off passion island.

8:00 open
