ok, is it just me? I can't imagine why I would choose a book for my husband, even though I have a good idea of what he likes. He certainly much prefers choosing his own books to someone getting him some random book that someone else likes. If he was going on a long flight and didn't have something lined up, I'd assume he wasn't that interested in reading.

ok, you guys........give me some suggestions for a really good book to get for hubby to read on the plane. going on vacation in a few weeks, and will have 3 flights each way, and layovers. thanks, donna

anything by Graham Greene.

Alright, let's expand your horizons a bit. Try China Mieville for some really different and surprisingly good reads. I stumbled upon 'The Scar' awhile back, and was completely captivated by it. Then I went on to 'Perdido Street Station', and the rest, as they say, was history. These novels absolutely defy categorization, except to say that they are in the fantasy genre, and they are like nothing else I have ever encountered. (And we go into a used bookstore about every other month with a grocery sack of paperbacks and come out with another one full of fresh reads...) PM me if you want more info, but this guy's imagination should be declared a national treasure,IMHO.

Shantaram- Gregory david Roberts
The best book I have read in years. Almost 1000 pages, should fill a lot of flight time.It reads quite fast, though. I think they are making it into a movie as well.
Lighter reading : anything by Carl Hiaasan
Even lighter- anything by Clive Cussler (I liked Deep Six)
And I have to agree that shadow divers is a must.

I think you'll both enjoy the books you've chosen.

I'll throw in a couple that I have read on flights in the past year.

Most recently I picked up 'Beyond Band of Brothers' by Dick Winters. Anyone who enjoyed the mini-series on HBO and most recently on the History Channel will appreciate hearing it from his point of view. What was surreal was when a member of the current 101st Airborne gets on my plane and sits next to me for my leg from Dallas to Denver.

When I was in Australia, I found this book 'Don't Tell Mom I Work on the Rigs: She Thinks I'm a Piano Player in a *****house ' by Paul Carter. The stories this guy has in working in the oil fields around the world is simply amazing and very entertaining. Its available through Amazon.

thanks everyone..........lots of great suggestions. i didn't know so many divers were also readers!!

The Improvised Munitions Handbook
The Poor Man's James Bond
Soldier of Fortune magazine
Terrorism for Dummies
Guns and Ammo magazine
Beginners Guide to Flying
The Catcher in the Rye

A seldom read book that is very good is Frankenstein By Shelly.

Its not a monster book - its a very sad love story.

A must read for the romance types!
