I don't believe anyone is advocating that all divers buy computers with the most liberal decompression algorithms. Some of us believe that divers should be aware of the wide variation in decompression algorithms so that they can use that information, in combination with other variables, to make an informed purchase.

Personally, I would give similar advice in making any major purchase, be an informed consumer

Great, I chose the cartoon pic to entertain the kids while the rest of us discuss grown folks' business.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Somehow my first though after reading your post was "yeah, and I'm angry with numbers, too, 'coz there's like so many of 'em". Seriously, between wreck dives typically quoted as examples of square profiles that don't require computers in the first place, and our two resident DSAT prophets preaching Oceanics as the only not limiting computers, this:

Yes, as a new diver, I didn't come close to reaching NDLs. But (checks log), within 3 years, after 60 dives & AOW, my computer was cutting short 2 wreck dives in Oahu. And that was a more aggressive Oceanic computer, it would have been even less time w other computers

just really hit the spot.

I think we should allow people to dive any profile they like for any duration they like - so long as they don't get bent out of shape about the consequences.
/sarcasm off

Maybe up in your lawless highlands we will. Here in these national socialist states of big government (soon to become great again), The Scuba Police will dive in with a shoulder roll and drag your a** to jail the moment the number on your computer screen hits zero. In fact we should rename NDL to NJTL (no jail time limit). ISAGN.

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

Hey everyone. Please bear in mind that this is a Green Zone so the tolerance for snark and aggression is pretty low. A couple of posts have been removed as they were OT and/or overly snarky / aggressive.

Please remember which forum you are in and reply appropriately, or start a new thread in Dive Computers or even Advanced where you can really let your PDC Freak Flag Fly.

Normal service is now resumed.
